90' DX engine swap questions...
Hey guys, new to the forum here and have some questions for ya...
I was set on getting my DOHC ZC and swapping into my DX but just recently found what looked like a damn good price on a b18b1 with auto tranny(would probably sell the tranny and try to find a manual). The engine has 70k miles and for bother the engine and tranny is $500. I would have to pick up like 8 hours away so I wouldn't really be able to inspect either. Well here's where the kicker is...
I already have a lightened ZC flywheel (got a good price on it), the pg7 ECU and a hydro tranny set up (I think the b18 is cable?) so this would probably be money in the hole until sold. With the engine and tranny for the b18 being pretty cheap do you think I could still stay around $1000+ for everything on the swap (ECU, perfomance clutch, flywheel, axles, etc.). That is what I was looking at for the ZC swap.
Also, if it is extra money, would it be worth it for dependability and every now and then a little street racin'?
One last question: I thought I knew what I was looking for for tranny wise on the ZC but someone threw me a curve ball. I was told I either need a true ZC tranny or a 88-91 Si Tranny. What was also said was SI Tranny with ZC 3-4- and Si 5. What is needed to do a 'hybrid' tranny? Can you by just the gears? And what tranny will work with the b18b1 to keep my options open.
Anything else I am not taking into consideration? :?

Well if you have already started preparing for the ZC swap and buying parts for it I think that you should stick to it. At least I would if I were you. As for the B18 deal. If its coming with an auto tranny that would put you through more trouble trying to afford the manual one. If its worth it to you then go for it. I would stay with the ZC though.

Because...
I was told by some people that if I were to get a manual tranny, performance wise, the Si would be better. They also said I needed it for 92-95, which is hydraulic. I now know I either need a ZC tranny or a 88-91 cable tranny from and Si. By the way, I think I'm going to stick with the ZC for now and upgrade later when I have more money: a year or so...
they lied although a D series tranny will bolt up the "best" option is to use a ZC/Si hybrid tranny, by that i mean use a ZC tranny, and then swap out the final drive for a Si final drive, but it depends cause when i had my ZC with ZC tranny 5th gear is LINEAR meaning going from 4th to 5th was just like going from 1st to 2nd it stays high RPM and the ZC/Si combo will make it even more linear... it all just depends on if you drive on the highways and dont care if its high revved or not

so fuckin blow those words out the back of your head, ive heard it all and im done with that shit
which is better?ZC or Si tranny? I am currently running a ZC tranny on a d15b2 Si conversion in my 89 CRX HF. I just bought a complete Si motor from a friend, motor's FUBAR,(for now) as he floated the valves and pistons hit the head. however I got the trans with it and was wondering if I should keep my ZC tranny or use the Si tranny. I am looking for the best acceleration but with a comfortable top gear for highway driving. However I will sacrifice highway driving for acceleration.(anything to make this car go faster till I swap).
