Hey guys, I think I found my tires for the Z.
Sumitomo HTR Z

I was planning to go with something wider and/or stickier, but I have to consider lifespan to $ spent. I'm going to explain how I can justify these for my daily driver, and how they'll still be cool.

Let's just say for simplicity's sake I get 30k miles out of these @ $100 each. Let's say the better tires get me 10% longer lifespan and 20% stickier compound for $500 each. I'm not going to see the traction difference on the street, just on the track.

Now, for the price of one set of the better tires ($2000, let's say), I could get two sets of the cheap tires ($800) and a set of competition tires ($400), and end up with spare money for a spare set of track wheels. That way I get about 80% better treadwear overall, and way better track days because of the competition days.

It sounds like a lot of money either way (and it is, admittedly) but tires are somewhere I'm willing to throw some cash and not feel badly about it. That being said, think it's a good idea to skimp on my road tires?

Oh, and these are the "better" tires (335/35-17):
Pirelli PZero System

and these are the "competition" tires (335/35-17):
Kumho Ecsta V710

Or maybe I'll go middle-of-the-road and get these:
Tire Details - Discount Tire Direct
and these for track days:
Tire Details - Discount Tire Direct

in my opinion i would stay away from kuhmo, ive had them and i have to say i didnt like them but as a side note i didnt have the slicks just the ecsta 711's. i like the bfg kd's but i believe they are a bit pricey if i recall correctly. either way good luck with your choices and know that i support the spend some money theory on your tires. they are the only contact between you and the road

I've had good results with BFGoodrich in the past, but the KD series only goes up to 275 series. That isn't nearly wide enough for wheelies.

On a side note, I'm officially switching over my server for the Madness Shop Manual to the new layout. Soon Madness Shop Manual will point directly to Madness Shop Manual

I'm excited.

I could start up a new forum if you guys wanted, but I honestly don't see the point. What would my forum do that everyone else's doesn't?

Basically, I'm happy that the Madness Manual has a future now. Hosting on the free wordpress.com server was awfully convenient, but extremely limiting. I couldn't write my own theme, for christ's sake.

I'm fixing up the navigation, and might even get it finished tonight.

Damn I missed a whole conversation today....Oh and for the tires I can't say personally but I had a friend whom owned both the Kumho's and the BF's and he said that the Kumho's suited him better, but to each their own I guess..

My complaint about the Kumho's is that they're preferred by drifters more often than not.

your complaint is well placed. when i had my 17's on my em1, i could run them off the rim with a good 5k dump. they just would not stop spinning no matter how much i heated them up. ill put it this way so we all understand. i was chirping 4th on a bolt on b16a2, no internals. the set i had were just a bit hard for my taste, thats all

Well, I just sold my 1996 Blazer and am on my way to pick up a 1984 GMC Caballero Diablo for 1300 with 80k on it, hopefully if my camera holds up I'll pics in about an hour....
