b16 ob0 ecu

hey guys. i have a question. im not exactly a noob but it has been awhile since i was really into hondas. i have a 88 crx hf with a b16 swapped in it. i drove it for a while and then i went and bought an sti. so no more crx. i do believe it is still an obd0 and am running a jdm ob0 ecu not sure which one. now here is my question. would it be worth it for me to convert this to obd1 and run the corresponding ecu cos i failed my emission last time thats the only reason i took it off the road. but now i want it back cos i miss it. its a great car. never had a prob with the car or the motor. but just want to know if i could pass emission if i changed ecu to a newer one or a usdm one. i know im running a little rich then i should be. any help would be great. if you guys could give me some pointers on how i could pass emissions would be great also.
i live in MD it is a 1988 crx hf with a b16 block and b17 head (<---don't ask ) running stock intake dc sport exhaust with a cat that my friend got from somewhere but i know its off of a honda. and stock headers. nothing much more. like i said i just want to pass emissions which is the gas part. thanks in advance. if you guys aren't sure of anything or have questions and ill try to ans them as fast as i can.

B17 head? lol, thats unique, uhm passing emissions . . .it would be easier (cheaper) to stay OBD0, have your tried using a PR3 ECU? its the USDM OBD0 B16 ECU, it should work. . . OBD1 is better for tuning but i don't know if it would make emissions better, i could assume that because its newer/better it would work better but i'm not sure, easiest thing is just try the USDM ECU and see what happens. hopefully some wiser SHO members will help you out, i don't know what MD smog laws are, but anyway good luck and you should post some pics of your rex for us to admire

btw have you considered swapping back the B16 head? is there any advantage to having the B17 head? (other then having the rarest engine head?)

I don't think obd1 will change something for your emissions test. I would definitely stay obd0, with a PR3 as anassa suggests or a PW0.

Is your "cat" still good, maybe buying a new one will be the most helpful solution, a worn cat is like nothing for emissions. Honda ref is 18160-PW0-G01 for 91 CRX SiR cat converter, tho I don't think you'll like the price...

Last solution we use sometimes, if you ecu is chipped, have a friend tune you a "lean" map you use only for emission test...

Have you done a full tuneup recently? What part of the emissions did you fail, maybe after you figure out where you're failing you can start diagnosing. Stay obd0 also, it's not worth it if everything is already running good.
Maybe adjust your timing (both ignition and crank).
I don't think they made a obd0 usdm b16 ecu, they are jdm cause the b16 came in america first in the del sol which is obd1...?

I agree with olivtec and rasin i would first go through and see where its failing and if its too much fuel get a lean chipped out pr3 to squeeze the power down and maybe squeak by emissions or try a trick i was told about. take out the number 1 spark plug and run it through. and i live one state over i lived in baltimore most of my life i know what a pain in the ass md emissions r for people with modded cars

1st of all, stay with obd0(pw0 or pr3), i dont recommend pr4 because 1.8L integra have a different fuel trim. 2nd make sure there's a cat converter on your exhaust and working properly. 3rd disable the vtec by unplug the solenoid or cut wire from ecu pin out. at the same time, CEL will be on, cut that wire also. A8=vtec solenoid(green), B6=CEL(green/orange), go to emission then put everything back, it work with my b16 crx, good luck with yours.
