I have a 1990 CRX DX and the battery keeps dying. I believe it's due to a possible short in my driver side door. The car is always telling me it's open and my seatbelt isn't on. But that's not the issue right now. I took the battery to get checked and asked the guy checking it if it was the correct battery for my car. I didn't put the battery in and don't know much about cars in the first place. He told me no. He said it's the right voltage and all that kind of stuff but the posts are in the wrong position. He said I need a "51 reverse post" and that my car was most likely draining due to the positive end coming in contact with the hood. But when I got home and put the battery back in the car to check out what he said before just replacing it everything looked fine. The positive knob is right next to the positive wire part and the negative next to the negative. It doesn't look like either part comes in contact with the hood. So exactly what kind of battery do I need? The battery is bad and needs to be replaced. I just want to know what kind of battery I need to get before I get it replaced.

volt meter it when the car is running , the voltage should read 13-14 volts, with the car off a fresh new battery shouldnt be higher than 12.5
Simple alternator test.
As long as you get a 12 volt battery for your car it doesnt matter,
with CCA's more is better, just get a one that fits. Sams club has energizer ones with pretty high CCA's and they're reasonably cheap.

No, you either have voltage leaking, or you have a battery that sucks and needs replaced or some electrolyte refilled. If its a new battery and it still does the same thing something wrong in the wiring.

unhook the battery when you turn off the car. if it doesnt hold battery power for a few days, its the battery. if its fine, you have a big drain somewhere. Id just pull the fuse for the door ajar or seatbelt thing, til you can figure it out. sorry, Id help more but Im not physically there to look at it

unbolt the rear view mirror mount, there is a module there, unplug it. it is for the seat belts. see the crx was designed to where y ou where suppose to never disconnect the seat belts, which makes it a pain to get in and out of, sometime that module fucks up

then see what happens
Thanks. I'll try that. Is that module the same thing as the fuse mattliston was talking about?
Wow....I feel like helping out for once...[Maybe it's cause I'm high].......
Anyways, if your wanting to check the fuses, you do that by removing their cover and simply pulling them with either a fuse tool (little plastic p.o.s.) or a pair of needle-nosed pliers. The cover is right under your steering wheel and has two clips or something of the sort on the right and left sides that need to be pushed in order to remove. Wait doesn't that thing say FUSES on it?
If it were me, I would check the voltage first. More than likely it is the alternator or battery. What type of posts does the battery have? Top post or side post? I know I had a top post in my CRX for a while and I had problems with it grounding out on shit as well. I just got side posts for the battery and side-post terminals for the car, problem solved.

Top post. I might look into getting a side post battery and terminals and see how that works. Thanks. I may just pull the fuses one at a time and see which one helps.
did you ever get a battery test while teh car is running?
When the battery was new, yes. But i just got it checked and replaced last night. Going to put it in today after I run some errands. Then see if I can figure out what's up with it constantly going dead.
