D series BS.... need info/help

OK..... here's the deal. It's a SOHC ZC block with a D16a6 head on it.... after a long list of problems (swap was obviously doomed from the start) finally got everything in an bolted up. Go to put the timing belt over the cam gear and tighten it down..... and after the adjuster was FULLY tightened, the front side of the belt was completely loose. I mean ya could just wiggle it about an inch back and forth. I've adjusted the tensioner and everything, and the only thing I can think of is replacing the timing belt. Has anyone done this swap? I mean, the SOHC ZC and the USDM D16a6 are almost identical, correct? I measured the head height and they are both the same. The cam gears are the same size..... I can't think of what the hell the problem is. Apparently it worked fine with the ZC head on it, but I decided to not use that head because it *might* have a bent valve or something (right mario?) either way, is the SOHC ZC t-belt longer than the a6 belt? If anyones got any ideas, I'd appreciate the help. OR else I h\guess I'll just have to pull that valve an stick the ZC head back on, swap out the cam, etc.... either way I've gotta get it back on the road tonight.
Maaan.... this is why I usually dont mess with D series swaps bad luck

aight hers probly wwats wrong...u dont have the tensioner pulley on right.
when i put my cam gears on the zc the timing blet kept coming loose if u turned the motor some..

if u get underneath look at the tensioner pully...on the top right corner there is alil hole that slides onto a lil nub on the block..make sure the hole in the tensioner pully is connected to the nub on the block...if not it will prevent the tensioner from fully tightening..thus causing slack in front or by the water pump...

ull have to loosen it back up if its not on properly...

You just don't have it tensioned right the slack should be betwenn the water pump and the front side of the cam gear. I say front side which is actually the backside of the engine. Just try again till you get it right. The A6 head and the SOHC ZC head are the same so that isn't the problem. Good luck!

ya sure they are the same right?

OK........ because I keep getting the slack on the front side, opposite the water pump. The tensioner is ALL the way tightened, and yes..... it's lined up over the little peg... just a little confused by this, everything else went fine and i coulda SWORE the heads were the same. I'll go re-install the belt, see what happens.......

haha yeah dom i lost your ## again, you gotta give it to me and MAKE SURE i right it down! heres mine..... 215-752-2621

ok some guy said to put the belt on, then crank it backwards a few times, and that should take the slack out of the front.... i'll try it tonight... any other ideas on how to get it tightened down all the way? I havent tried to fix it yet so tonight is the night I guess..
