New Engine
I just bought my 87 Si. And i'm also really new to the tuner world. I hear a lot about B16 engines but i have no clue what that means. I want to get a new engine but i dont want a top performance engine. Any suggestions?

B18a they relatively cheap, good platforms to mod, and unlike a d series, they have torque. The swap is almost painless (there is a great write up on here for it) and they can easily achieve 200whp with simple engine mods while still being reliable unlike a d series in which 200whp is almost as far as you'd want to go for street/daily driving.

sorry buddy but your a bit off, remember he said 87 not 88+, in other words first gen
Welcome steven_m85 to SHO, there are tons of dicks on this site but there are also good guys that will help you out, jordan being one of them, anyway you really should check out RPR (redpepperracing.com) they specailize in 1st gen crx's and 3rd gen civics. Also if you don't know what a B16 is, don't even think of swapping your engine yet, first gain some knowledge, not only about engines but about suspension/brakes (most important thing for a crx). the si has enough spunk to be fun if you work on the suspension and brakes a bit. Also random fact: 1st gen si are just a tiny bit quicker then 2nd gens.
Seriously before making a choice on a engine swap read up and then make an educated choice, with the 1st gen that you have a B16 may not be a bad idea, it will achieve high 13's i think bone stock. 143whp does alot in a light car. But since its a first gen its going to be a harder swap, a D16a1 will drop right in but other D series engines will require custom mounts. anyway go to RPR and do some reading.

^ i concur. knowledge goes a long way. i think you'll find that d-series will be the easiest and most practical, but look into it. d16a6 with boost FTMFW.

You just cracked me up. 10 cool points for steven_m85!
No, there really isn't anything specific to the CRX. My site has a fair amount of information, but isn't exactly what you'd expect out of a magazine (and my focus has been on my Datsun lately... I'll get back to my rex soon enough). I suggest a d16a6 as your engine of choice, or a d15b7 (very inexpensive, relatively good performance). You have a lot of choices open to you, but RPR is probably your best bet on that front.
*edit* I just repped you from 0 rep points and now 'you need a life'. Anyway, keep up the good attitude and the good questions, I'm sure you'll be hopelessly overwhelmed with reps in the near future.

why oh why . . .unless its the D16a1, B series are easier to swap in then other D series, there are NO after market mounts made for D series engines into first gens, the mounts have to be custom made, yes the D16a6 is a great engine, but it would be easier to swap in a B16 or B18a/b/c . . and even then you probably still have to make a custom shift linkage.
This is probably some of the best info on swapping in a D: D16z6 Writeup....sticky? - Red Pepper Racing
D16z6 Info - Red Pepper Racing
What ever swap hes going to do its not going to be easy, its not like the 2nd gen where you can just throw a D series in there or swap in a B in with all the parts available. Sorry drumming but it just bugs me when people just say that he can just put in a D as if its a drop in. And its good that he has an Si so its already FI, or else he would have to swap from carb to FI . . . boy oh boy. . .
good luck whatever you choose to do, it will be worth it clean 1st gens are few and far in between.

either get a newer crx or save up to do a lot of custom work to get a better motor swapped in your current rex...but knowledge is power, and that will help you tremendously in your decision making on which motor to swap in, but also, having the right vehicle makes it a lot easier.

At least with the Si, it was fuel injected, so he wouldn't have to replace all the fuel lines and fuel sender if he went with a newer engine.
