No ShiftER?!?

Yes, tis I, Mr. takes-almost-a-year-to-pass-inspection, with another lovely disaster. But this one is not so expensive...

Well anyway, after i casually shifted to third (clutch out), i wiggled the gear selector and thought to myself "Wow, this feels like I'm in neutral". As i was making a right, i took it out of gear to hear a lovely.SSssSkKkKKkKkRRRrAaAPPPPee. That, people, is the beautiful sound of the shift rod disconnecting from the transmission and scraping the concrete. Thus ending a fantastic day...

I know it's hard to see, but there she be fellas...Laying on the ground in all her glorious, metalness?..

And on the bed, (One of my license plate lights came off, after my mom deiced to PUSH me in her CAR four blocks..luckily i still have my bumper..)

With my 300th post, I just thought I'd fill you guys in on the latest. Hey something was bound to happen sooner or later. Tomorrow I'm going to fix it, no big deal. But seriously, does anyone know how the pin could have broken???I've only had the car for a week...

if the pin broke its because it was not the right size and someone beat the holy fuck out of it to get it in, and by the way you could have gotten it home with a zip-tie no need for the push. just be easy finding gears and it miraculously works

Today, when i work on it, i guess, but as for the vid..We all probably know what a 90 hp, full exhaust crx is like, lol. If i go to the track this weekend I'll try and get one.

This happened to me before. I went to a clothing store and was lucky enough to get a wire coathanger, threaded that through the hole twice and wrapped it around, cotter pin style. Worked fine for about a month when I replaced it.

I seen coat hangers used for radios but for cars..Yup this man must be ghetto ..But thanks for the idea +rep! , I am going to do that now, wish me luck. lol

But were you able to get the clip as well? I went to Honda and they can get the spring pin, just not the clip. He may have said they were on backorder, but I can't remember if he meant the spring or the clip. I hope the clips are. Don't want to skimp on pieces..

But my question is why a spring and a clip? Why not use a bolt??

Well i did it, sort of, but i have a problem now..

CEL came on but i didn't pull the code yet.. If it does again i will see what the code is.

But the big problem is, I have gears 1-4. No 5th and no reverse.

Well now, unfortunately, I have to FIND the gears. It is like this, we all know first is to the top left (Honda), BUT with my setup now, it is also in the top middle, where 3rd should be. So 5th has been bumped off the face of the earth (metaphorically speaking), lol, and its spot has been replaced with 3rd. So as you might have figured out much care needs to be taken when shifting to 3rd and 4th. When i took it for a test drive i was afraid to let out the clutch, lol. Also, when I'm in gear it still feels like I'm in neutral, EXtremely loose play from side to side.

I really wish i had a garage....

If i don't fix this tonight, I'm not taking any chances trying to drive it tomorrow.

Well the reason it didn't work was because the coat hanger was not strong enough to hold the two pins together, evenly, when trying mto change fork rails (or what ever you want to call it) I don't know how you did it drumming but i guess you lucked out, or your just better than me, Haha, I'm just playing.. So anyway, i found a bolt..maybe i can squeeze some rubber in between that and the hole for cushioning, idk. Tomorrow morning I'm going to throw that bolt in and keep the coat hanger on the side, just in case.

Just the spring pin will be fine, if you can get it in securely. The clip is essentially just a failsafe that holds it in no matter what (like a cotter pin would be for a nut that's essential to have in all the time).

As far as my coat hanger went, I stuffed it in, wrapped it around the left, stuffed it through again, wrapped it around the right, and twisted the two ends together. I had slack but I learned to deal with it for the time being.

Well it has been fixed for almost a week now (knock on wood) but i have the spring clip now, just did not install it yet. I ordered the clip and the boot also, just to make sure if this does happen again i'll at least have most of the pieces. When i install the clip and everything else ill take pics of those.

With the Coat Hanger (Workerd but wasnt strong enough for the 5th, reverse fork)

With the Allenkey bolt w/ nut (surprisingly only took me 2 min to find and it fits so perfectly i was amazed. I think it came from my bike...lol)

Got it fixed now. Probably cost me about 20 buck, all from the dealer. My gears are tight once again, lol. Had to hammer the spring in since it is a tad larger than the hole, it was the only way to get it in. Everything else is self-expanatory and really isn't but a 10 min job. Since i started this thread just thought I'd finish it.

The pieces ( -->Boot.Clip, Spring)

w/o boot

W/ boot(<--for some reason this looks kinda cool at thumbnail size or whatever. It may be my avi lol.)
