possible civic hb si purchase, what do you think??

One of my best friends wants to sell me his 91 civic hb si, for $3,000. (cars in cali are expensive) It is the one featured in friends rides on my website. It is teal, lowered on gsr rims, Intake, exhaust, full HUGE stereo system, very nice interior, perfect exterior, except for a dent on the lower side of the passenger door, no rust. There is a catch though. It periodically smokes, mostly when you drive down hill. It dosent smoke when you drive normal, but like I said down hill it will every now and then let off a big puff or two. The smoke is very random, and dosent happen very much. Burns only a little bit of oil. Any ideas on what is causing this. It drives perfect, new clutch, and tranny, timing belt Good tires, exc...

Well, my plan was I could let my dad drive it, cause his car will be sold in the next few weeks. (he also has a work truck). And when I do my b16 swap in my rex, I could use that for transportation, because I am doing the swap in my auto shop class next semester. (teacher is a honda tech). And when I am done with the swap, I could use my motor(crx d16) for parts on the civic, then I could sell it, or keep it. What do you guys think?

PS, I got a lot of cash lying aroung, and 3,000 is not going to brake my bank. Oh, and all my money was earned by myself, the only cash I get from my parents, is a little over a 100 for birthday, christmas exc... Oh, and I am 19 years old, going on 30. Just some insight you you dont think I am a spoiled brat!!!

3000 is pretty good for a 91.. i'd take it, plus that headers and intake is already done is kinda spiff

well if it smokes only going down hill, than thats just weird, but you said it burns a little oil. My guess is rings or valve seals, but if its just to get you around until you finish the swap, then I wouldnt even worry about it. Hope that helps.

Si hatches are too sweet! Those are RARE around where I live. If I could find one I'd buy it for $3200!

It is always good to have a daily driver and a race car on the side...if I could afford to have another civic so I could use that as a straight up race car and have the R as my daily driver I totally would.

I saw a black Si in a guy's yard here with one of those dayglo cop stickers on it- knew it was hurtin'. Slobby guy said his brother had wrecked it and it wasn't fixed correctly.( An earlier wreck in the car's life. He said "the whole front was smashed". ) Ragged interior but body looked ok now. Except for rf wheel had been rubbing fenderwell pretty hard. Had one with that kinda problem before and frame shop rigged it. Don't want any more half-ass jobs like that. I started thinking twice after he said he'd prolly sell it for $500! A few days later it's gone. Shit! I should have bought it anyway but I can't decide between 91 or 92 style hatch. I keep obsessing about the suspension differences and the more modern look of the 92, ease of swap, etc., but the 4th gen(?) looks good too. Damn, I need therapy soon maybe.

Today I was in the neighborhood of my friends garage, so I decide to stop in and see what's up. Two hatches sitting outside with the customers' vehicles. I asked the shop foreman if maybe they were in need of engines hoping to get lucky. He said one belonged to another tech there, but the red one was his.
1994 CX, just purchased from some people who blew the engine and didn't want to fix it. HE GOT IT FOR $200!!! Clean interior, no dents, stick, damn him. What a deal. He said he was giving it to his son for his 16th next friday. He swapped in a 1.5 with little extras only but I bet his kid will be happy next weekend. His boss (my friend) said "I wish I had known you wanted it." Now very pissed. My luck has to change. I left word to please share if any more deals come across like that.LOL
Guy said he's bought six cars there already, including a Mustang GT with bad motor for 1100. Said he cleared 5K on that one.

HA HA HA...you just have to keep your eye open...there are deals like that everywhere.

In SD kids blow motors all the time...they can't afford to be without their car but they can't afford to replace the motor so the sell them cheap....

cool, well as soon as i sell my dads 91 oil/ coolant using plymoth sundance, its mine! Also, i was thinking, it is going to be my dads car as well as mine, so i need new springs. It has sprint springs right now, and it drops it like 3 inches. Its got tuck. So i was thinking about getting some of those cheap immatation ground control on ebay for like 100. I would leave it at like 1 inch for my dad, then if i ever want to drop it lower i can. I figure, a 1inch drop will be comfortable for him, what do u all think? Also, i have actually heard they were quality units, especially for the price. thanks, Ryan
