Question on 16' or 17' rims for a 88 CRX Si??

I'm sure it has been asked before, though for some reason the search forum function is not coming up for me.

I have run across a set of 17" enkei aluminum rims and tires. They are off of a 2000 Honda Civic Hatchback. For a let me say GREAT price.

Now for the question, what are the cons to 17' vs. 16'? I'm running on the stock Si rims, would there be anything special I would have to do before putting them on my CRX?

Need answers quick please

Thank you for your time.

imho, i wouldnt go over 16" on a rex, 17's are too big for such a tiny car.

Well 17's will look better IMO, but are much worse for performance. Theyre much heavier, so your acceleration will suffer. You also have to run a lower profile tire. Depending how the roads are where you are (they suck here in PA), you might want a fatter sidewall. A good pothole could spell disaster for a 17" rim.

Personally, I went with the 16's for my integra. But my buddy has 17's on his crx, and they look HOT. (SI blue paint, white 7 spoke rims). But he got 2 big dings in the front rim in less then 4 months- one of the dings cracked the rim. So its up to you.

The rims already have low profile tires, in great condition. Roads here are good in TX.

I dono if i can pass it up, guy is asking 200$ for tires/rims in really good shape.

I have been looking for a deal tires/rims on some 16's and have had no such luck.

Decisions, decisions!

Anyone else care to comment, someone running 17's on their CRX, and their experiences?

Thanks for the quick responses so far!

I had 16's on my rex. I wouldnt get 17's if I were you, you can slam your car a little more with smaller wheels. Plus, the car is so small lots of people think theyre 17's. Hold out and get some nice new wheels. My .02...

Hmmmm, I think I'm going to pick them up and give'em a test for a few days.

Then I'll prolly sell them and make a little off them if I don't like the way the feel.

Thanks for all the advise! much appreciated!

re

If you get 17's you have to get a full kit to even it out size wise, other wise 15's with standard kit look good, but then again Ive never seen a crx lowered on 17s before, might look ok.

if i had a crx, id put 15" rims on it. I like some with 16's, but 17's are too big.

I actually like hearing everyone talk about 15" wheels I have been sitting here watching the trends for the past decade and it seems as though a few years back everyone started ricing out their cars with 17s, which is way to big for the CRX. Now people are getting more into true "performance" and as far as that is concerned 15" inch wheels are the optimum wheel size. 16" wheels will give you a small performance hit, but if your into that "big wheel" look then it's not a bad choice. 17s are just too big. Of course we're talking about general street and road course use. Autocrossers may even tell you to go with a smaller wheel, while drag racers have different needs as well.

unless u have a kit (sorry didnt really read the first post fully if u already said u did) then i wouldnt do 17's i have 17s right now and im most likely going to change them for 16s when i get money.....maybe though i still havent done suspension that might make me keep them just becuase ive seen 17s with a ww kit look good CRXican on this board has a really nice crx with 17s and seeing that is really the only reason ive considered keeping them...

but if u dont have a kit i wouldnt do it id go 15s probably with no kit
