I'm not even going ot beat around the bush with this. 50% of the people on this board dont know their asses from a hole in the ground and it pisses me off sometimes..
It needs to get checked out by a DOT agency to make sure that it abides by all the safety rules of the US (5mph bumper is one of them). Then it has to undergo CA emissions testing. But i'm still searching

A buddy of mine drives a right hand drive Civic hatchback. Since the Civic is a standard car in the US, it made it easier. All the crash test information is the same.
The car has to be taken to a DOT agency or the CHP (for those of us living in CA). The CHP looked at his car and inspected it for stolen parts. Then he had to take it to a smog place to have it checked out. All of the smog equipment had to be hooked up and working with emmissions output within the standard for the same US counterpart.
I believe after this point, he was able to get the sticker which allows him to drive it legally in this country.
After he finished all this stuff, he dropped a B18C5 and now his car jams.
hey, do you think i can have this guys screen name or email address...i'm in need of some info

Do yourself a favour and get in touch with your states' DMV. find out from the horse first person, and after you have the info, call them again and get it from someone else there, you know, double check. Nothing sucks more than sinking money into a car, and getting bum scoop, trust me, I know. It happened to my dumb ass twice (two different situations each time, but was alot more trouble than initially thought) No one on this board, unless they work for the DMV or have imported a car, who lives in your state with in the last year can really help you honestly. DMV and DOT laws change with out notice, so old 411 may not be good anymore. Good luck with the ride bro, but don't get the spot in the garage cleared until you get that info.
I"m living in Japan and am going to bring back whatever car I get here, either an R CRX or a prelude. not sure yet. preludes are cheaper!
But....call customs! I am working out the details now, and when I find out, I"ll let everyone know in a post. I have called customs here (US customs in tokyo) but they wont answer their damn phone. I have been told that for some cars, those not sold in the US, you have to put down a wicked bond, and also have to bring it through an importer which can be very pricy, but that's just rumor. the local DMV back home didnt know squat about it. Call customs. If I find out the info, which I will soon I hope, I'll post it for everyone.
well to be honest, I have been thinking of starting up a lil parts business on the side here, but I have to get a bigger apartment, and also find a few salvage yards first. I know lots of good garages and parts shops, but shipping and money transfer is a trick here since checks dont exist and so on. I'll let you know if I can fire up something.
