WHAT MAKES THE LS VTEC AND ALL OTHER B SERIES ENGINES SO SPECIAL IS THAT JUST ABOUT EVERTHING IS INTERCHANGABLE SO YOU CAN PLAY WITH YOUR COMPRESSION RATIO, BUILD ENGINES WITH HIGH AND LOW C/R FOR TURBO AND NITROUS SETUPS FOR MAXIMUM GAINS IN POWER AS TO MORE LOW OR MORE TOP END
ITS ALL ABOUT UPGRADING AND MAKING THE CORRECT ADUJSTMENTS SO YOUR ENGINE CAN PERFORM TO ITS FULL POTENTIAL :

Thngs are just interchangeable because they are based the same. For instance in transmissions you can fit whatever gears will connect up correctly. Same with motors, Honda designed things so parts can be universal in series.

And its not just Honda, American cars did it way back to. Like big block and small block. Alot of small block parts are interchangeable with each other and same with big block. It saves the company money.

That is totally true...although not all the parts are interchangable.

The B18C (gsr) is a TOTALLY different motor than the B18C5 even though you would think that they are exactly the same they are totally different. The bottom end on the GSR is actually the same bottom end that is used with the LS...only the rod length and crank are different. The B18C5 actually has a lot more in common with the B16 than the B18....becuase the C5 is basically just a B16 with a slightly different stroke and bore and the head has a lot of different stuff in it.

So you can't just assume that since you have a B-series motor that everything is going to go together...it won't...only certain motors are good with certain components.

A couple of ways to look at it are how you have to change the oil passages on the LS block to fit the VTEC head...how you can't use a Type R intake manifold with a GSR head, you can only use it with a B16 head...how the Type R exhaust manifold and the B16 exhaust manifold are exactly the same except for the angle with which they have bolts connecting to the cat.

So yeah...it is economical for honda and good for us hybriders...you just have to know which branch of the family tree to draw parts from.
