I recently bought an 88 crx si .Yesterday i tried to start it up, but it wont start, it makes a clicking noise when i turn the key,i measured the voltage on the battery and its good.
I also noticed that in the cluster, the check light and the brake light, are dimmer than the others.
Could it be the main relay ? i tried to find it, but i cant
what i would do is take a test light and test the wire going into the starter solenoid. but before you do that test all the fuses. there are small terminals exposed in the back of the fuses. probe the test light there. if you get no signal AT the starter solenoid. check the relay. have someone try to crank the car over and listen for the relay to click. if no clicky, replace the relay. if you are getting power at end of the starter solenoid circuit. it's probably the starter. if you feel it is you can take a hammer and tap on it while trying to turn the engine. NOTE: there are permanent magnets inside the starter motor that you may break while doing this. you can get your starter rebuilt, buy a rebuilt starter (usually with a core charge of your old starter), or buy one brand new at the cost of your very own left nut. lol, jk. hope i helped good luck.
also make sure you have a good ground when using the test light, test it on the battery for proper operation, then find a bare metal (unpainted) surface. i suggest the tranny or block or motor mount or somewhere. those dim cluster lights are probably just bulbs burning out. easy fix they just twist right out.

Bingo baby!! Bingo!!
Listen to this dude, I'll put money on the starter solenoid stuck. I bet you the hammer trick will work. It's so easy to try that I would even do this before I tested any circuits. Have someone crank the engine over while you tap the starter solenoid with a hammer (or something long enough to get down there). If this doesn't start the car then test the circuits, if your getting voltage then get a reman'd starter and call it a day
Remember to make sure the car is not in gear...I don't want to hear about some dude getting run over
Well i tried today to hit the starter with a hemmer and my friend trying to crank it up, but id dosent start when i try to crank it i only hear a click that comes near from the fuse panel... i have to test the other things yet
u did try tapping on the starter WHILE someone was trying to crank the car right? if u did then i test that circuit. locate the fuses and check those out. also find out exactly where that starter solenoid relay is and get your eyes and hands on that sucker. listen for it to click. a quick check is to swap a different nearby relay that is the same in place of the starter relay, if u determine the relay is bad you will obviosly have to replace it. also if u test that circuit, the test light will only light when the ignition is in the crank mode. after tapping on it, if you get a foul smell, that solenoid is definetly locked up. disconnect the battery for the downtime you are about to have if this happens. let us know how it goes, trust me, someone here has to have the right info to throw at u.
