We all hear it some of us use it well here is my take on it.
I have been in the import scene now for a long time I did my first swap about 6 years ago. I remember the days win it was new to see a CR-X beat a mustang. Rice as I remember it was started as a term to use for people that had stickers for mods they did not have. I used the term back then in this way and I still use it that way.
But now times have changed people have different meanings for the word rice.
Body kits are called rice along with
Conversions
Wings
Spoilers
Some rims
Dropped cars
Neon
L.E.D. lighting
Z3 fenders
Paint that is more than one color
Basically any mod you do that does not help performance is rice
I for one find this upsetting, really what’s the deal? We all got into imports for some resin and we all have a goal with ore cars. For the most part I think that goal is to have a car that looks nice and is fast at the same time. Every person has a different view on what they think looks nice. So why I ask is something rice just because you don’t like it. Can’t we all just have nice cars and not complain about what’s cool.
I had a 73 Camaro for the longest time and I remember nothing like this in the domestic scene. No one cared hell your car could be all beat to shit or real flashy and no one cared as long as you where not talking about shit your car really can’t do. I think we as a import scene need to grow up and let people be
i kind of agree. But, i call things ricey like big wings that weigh down the car, and things that just go to the excess. i think if something is ricey, then its some car that is supposed to "look fast." the cars with the mods, that do absolutely nothing, but make the car slower. i think if a car looks sweet, and can go out and whip some other cars, then its not rice. But those people who put all that extra stuff into their car, and don't do anything to increase performance, and still act/talk about how their car is the best around, they need to rethink how they are acting towards others. There is really no sense of family in the import scene. The domestic scene, those people don't ever trash other cars. The only sort of rivalry is the company rivalry, i.e. ford vs. chevy. Its always been imports vs. domestics, but its alsy imports vs. imports. People trash talk, and bash each other, because they drive something different. I think that it may be because a lot of the import scene is made up of imature kids who spend their parents money. Those people who get things, but don't put any work into their cars themselves. How can anyone respect their car, and others in the import scene, if they didn't put anything into it themsevles?
Rice is anything APC, uhh, Superstreet sticers on a car, APC stickers, Big APC like wing, and big vinyl stickers along the side of the car. Thats what I consider rice.
I just remembered this camaro i saw the other day. The thing had superstreet stickers, NOS stickers, APC stickers, and a bunch of other import ricey types of stickers on it. I about died laughing, because it was a late 70's brown camaro, you heard me right camaro, that didn't have any, and couldn't have had most of that stuff on it. That is definitely considered rice. Even if it was a domestic.
I agree with Ich. But i do call the civics with the decals along the side, and the HUGE and loud muffler, with a big ass aluminum spoiler. Maybe cause this is the stereotypical view of ricers? If my car was sitting next to a car like that, the other car would be called a ricey, not mine. Which is most likely irrevelant. But oh well. Enjoy your cars.
Hey ich, I know you haven't been around here very long so I am going to let you in on a little secret. This has been beat to death man. No one is going to change their use of the word or position over what you have to say... sorry. Just ignore it and your life will be much easier. Remember how you were telling people to ignore repetitive posted questions? Just do the same thing... IGNORE IT.

In my opinion, rice is thrown around too much as well. I myself have been known in the past to throw it around, before I "matured". I now appreciate any car, and if it makes the person happy all the better. What I am really tired of is people doing stuff to their car just to impress other people. In my opinion, if you like it do it... if someone else has a problem with it, tell them to "fuck off" (with a british accent of course!).
Also, I believe that domestic drivers are more tightly bound because they do most of their own work on their vehicles. I agree with the earlier post who said that most kids just have their parents pay for it, so they dont really feel a sense of pride in it.
