short shifter question

i hear getting a short shifter will wear out your synchros, when you shift, the shifter will actually shift faster than your synchros do? im not sure... can someone tell me if this is wrong?

Errrgh ?

Come on man..
the short shifter does NOT make it quicker to shift gears (in reality)

It only shortens the space that you have to move the gear stick.

Made my own.

Don't worry about wearing out your syncros. Like Kristian said it just shortens the throw and has no effect on the actual tranny.
I just put in a B&M in mine. Debating on the DelSol one though.

But doesn't a short shifter make shifting harder?

I can see why someone grinds since you do have to be more precise (kinda) and it kinda takes a while to get used to. (took me 3 days). If anything it will wear out the bushings but I haven't heard anything about the syncros.
I got a Ractive one and it was a pain to install (go figure) but once its in it does reduce the throw.
Trust me when I say, buy a short throw and dont simply "cut" the stock shifter. If anything it makes it worst and I am speaking from experience.
Now to get my bushings installed... :

The reason that a short shifter can wear out synchros is due to the reduced throw of the shifter you can move the stick on top that shorter distance faster than the stock unit. This puts more wear and tear on the synchros because they now have to respond to that quicker shift and the whole way that they function is to wear away and help speed up the outer collar with the gear right before the collar locks on the gear. If you speed this up, coupled with high RPM, this can put severe stress on the synchros and wear them faster. Additionally, if you have less than perfect synchros to start with, adding a short shifter will only magnify any problems that you have in the transmission prior to installing it. They don't go away by removing it, they're just simply less noticable. I prefer to use bearings in the stock honda shifter and a poly bushing kit, I have had excellent results, and silky smooth shifting all day long at the track!

All a short shifter does is relocates the cables that the shifter uses to change the gears.
It relocates them to a place where there is less movement needed to shift but it does not cause the tranny to shift faster

It still helps a bit.
I'm guessing it'll be better once I get my bushing installed.
I hope!
