Thud is on a distinguished road
Suggestions?

Hey everyone, what's up.

First let me start off by introducing myself; I'm Thud.

I have a 1987 Honda Civic CRX. Actually, I have two. I use one for parts.

It's a 5-speed, and it has 271,000 miles. I do want to get some performance parts and stuff, but I also dont' want to spend too much. See, this is my primary mode of transportation, and in the beginning of August I'm moving to a place that's about an hour from where I work, so I'll be commuting everyday.

So, what I'd like from you guys, is some suggestions as to what kinds of parts should I consider investing in that will help prolong the life of my engine, and what brands or types or whatever I should get.

I'm open to spending more money than most people would though, if it's really worth it. Like, I have no problem spending like $80 on a set of spark plugs if they really are good quality spark plugs that will do my car well.

I don't know too too much about performance parts and stuff; I have a friend who has a Honda that's he's almost completely rebuilt, so he's been helping me out. But the more input, the better.

I'm not sure if I've completely conveyed what it is I'm looking for, but hopefully you guys get what I'm talking about.

I appreciate any and all feedback.

Peace,

~
Thud

Throw a zc motor in it, you can pick one up for a decent price on tiger japanese, hmotorsonline or you could prob find one at a junkyard.

Ehhh.. ZC not going to work, first: illegal, never stock register engine in the US so its hard to smog.. or not depending on your friends . Also it depends on the ZC engine, the very old ones will work, but the newer DOHC ones or the SOHC ones will not work. Remember this is a 87 =1st gen crx.

I am assuming since you didn't say HF/Si that its a DX so that means its probably a D15a2 carb engine. The D16a1 will drop in, you will need to convert to FI and swap to OBD0. It will be some work but defiantly fun, or you can go with the Si engine, which also requires FI... or best of two worlds, throw in the Si engine and keep it carbed.

As for brands, and more info then you will ever need go to redpepperracing.com (RPR) the guys are 1st gen crx/3rd gen civic guru's and will have enough ideas/parts/ etc to keep you busy.

But if you have more specific questions feel free to ask. Personally i could go on for pages with ideas, but I'd rather you be more specific. Oh and btw I am also a fellow 1st gen owner.

There were a LOT of reasons I left. CA is kinda the opposite, as far as smog regulations go.

... but I like old imports with v8s, so it's all good.
