Alright, so i was parallel parked and a truck backed into my 4th gen. The trailer hitch dug a gash into my front bumper (pics coming later). It isn't bad, the estimate at a body shop is $870 for a new bumper and paint, labor, etc. So i'm wondering if i could somehow get it fixed cheaper and manage to get a WWRS lip painted and put on too. Any ideas? Of course this is through the other guy's insurance but i haven't talked to him about the estimate yet. Maybe he won't want to go the insurance route and just give me a check to bypass any rates from going up. I had an option to save $100 by getting an aftermarket OEM replica bumper but i think i'll turn that down. Only if his truck was lifted and it got my hood... i could have a CF hood by now.

yeah, hard to buy anything when i'm a college student. but i'm being nice and letting their neighbor look at it. only problem is the neighbor wants to get it painted at maaco... i'm a little hesitant cause dont they do crappy work?
edit: i expressed my concern for a maaco paint job on the bumper. the neighbor is actually a tech at a local honda dealer so he'll do the labor and buying the part with a discount. but as far as paint goes, the estimate put down about $350 for the painting process within the original $870

My mom got her Jeep cherokee painted there. Looked good for a year or so, but then spots started peeling. From what i've been told and read, the prep work sucks at Maaco. But the painting is fine. So if you do the prep yourself you should be fine.
update: the lady decided to go insurance the whole way now so i'm going to get things done right and no maaco. finally got a pic

Should tell them to paint your hood too....Looks like you've been driving behind too many 18 wheelers
Bad drivers suck, and I agree with Brian, see if you can get your hood painted!

they have to paint the hood, they need to blend it along with the fender cause your paint code color wont match your old paint. kinda reminds me of me last month, got backed into by a truck, lil ding on the fender cost em a paint job. you should find a body shop that will blow up your estimate, just so the ins company pays for inconviniencing you. And ask for a rental car too.

how do you get the money from the insurance rather than the body shop?
edit: or do you ask them to buy the hood, etc.

well you have to get a estimate from a body and fax it or email it to the ins company, once u ve spoken to them about the accident and such. They ll review the estimate, maybe call the body shop to clear things up, once that is done, they should cut you a check to your name, and mail it to you. AFterwarda, if anything else is wrong with your car after its been torn down in the body shop, the body shop should contact them and let them know more things are wrong, the ins company will then issue another check directly to the body shop. Thats how it happened for me.
you didn't ask for the check to be cut to you specifically? that's nice, then i might get a WWRS Lip

like i said above, once the ins company gets the estimate, they issue the first check to your name. Once your car goes into the body shop and is being worked ont, if there are further damages from the accident that werent noticed b4, that the estimate didnt cover, then the body shop will have to contact the ins company and let em know of what they found, and they will then issue a 2nd check directly to the body to cover the the rest of the newfound damages
