depending on what your forte' is....I would suggest getting the base model if you plan on modifying it a lot....if the car is going to remain relatively stock...I would choose the type SH. I like handling....and taking corners...so I probably would like the Type SH over my Base prelude....but I got such a great deal on my prelude back when I bought it...I couldn't pass up the deal.
As for looking at buying used cars....I bought mine new...But what I would ask is
Valve adjustment done?
How often was the oil changed? Records?
timing belt/water pump changed?(if car has over 90K miles)
Check the inside of the tires......see if the wear is normal.
If the tires have uneven wear....More on inside or outside..ask when the last time he got an alignment was?
Are the tires in good condition?
Often times on manual transmission preludes...synchro's can go bad...make sure you test shifting into 2nd gear and 5th gear.....these two gears are normally the most problematic....also ask if he drives with his/her hand on the shifter? if they did....sometimes this can lead to synchro problems.
does the engine eat oil over 3K mile period?
and obviously overall condition....I know this is kind of over the top on things to look for....but these are the things I would look for when buying a used car...depending on how perfect you want the lude to be....and the price its being sold at.
