Toyota has been eyeing Nissan's success with the revived 350Z - and apparently, from spy pictures nabbed this week, it's been a little jealous of supercars like the Porsche Carrera GT, too. Toyota 's been caught testing what some insiders are calling the "TXS," a limited-production exotic that might be powered by a V-10 engine worth 500 hp.
Pictures show the TXS with enough cladding to disguise much of its shape, but clearly, this is no Celica or MR2-sized sportscar. Insiders suggest the car will tip in at less than 3000 pounds, giving its 500-hp powerplant (with 370 lb-ft of torque) a serious chance at catching the likes of the Porsche and Benz supercars. Top speed could reach 190 mph, the same league as the 550-hp Ford GT. Whether the drivetrain offers any version of Toyota 's hybrid technology is unknown.
Whether the final vehicle is sold as a Lexus or as a Toyota , it's likely that a limited production run of about 10,000 units is in order. Expect a debut at the 2005 Tokyo Motor Show and an on-sale date soon after - with a pricetag well over $100,000.

recap:
limited edition.
possible V10, 500hp
>3000lbs
<$100,000 USD
probably come under the lexus badge.
Very nice....but where's our next gen 400hp TT I6 supra? I'd sooner see that than some ultra-limited production supercar priced into the 6 figures.
With them killing off the celica and MR-S, this is a pleasant surprise . I thought they had gone soft and lost their balls for good. Now...just bring back the surpa .

Hprelude92: "God EXIST"
SuperAkuma: "How do you know that God exist?"
Hprelude92: "God exist because the Bible said so"
SuperAkuma: "How do I know the Bible is true"
Hprelude92: "Because God wrote the Bible"
Mods: not much - rims, intake, exhaust tips, clear sidemarkers and turns, 25 LED fogs
Cool! Its shaped kinda like an aston martin and I like how the exhaust is integrated into the diffuser. They have to make up for killing the celica and mrs in some way. I wish honda would do the same. But both companies need to come out with an "affordable" performance car for the masses to rival the nissan, subaru, mitsu....
500hp V10, < 3000lbs japanese sports car - stock. sweet. with all due respect to the nsx. this could be a real japanese supercar, the new kid in town will show up honda pretty nicely unless honda has something up their sleeves with the nsx. which i'm hopin they do.

Honda's afraid to go big. I don't know if they'll ever go bigger than 3.5L v6 . Hard to play with the big boys when they're packing 500+ supercharged v8's, and N/A v10's and v12's.
Mods: A pair of angel wings and 2 cans of red bull... Mighty fast!

Yeah right The yellow belly management at Honda won't produce slow selling car anymore. Halo car or not, Honda is going businessman (profit first). Toyota is rich, filthy rich, they can do what they want.
There is afterall, IRL, F1, BTCC and MotoGP to quench our thirst for some Honda speed right? (No JGTC, that thing is rigged, no Honda could ever win)
What about engine configuration? It doesn't look MR (is that ducts underneath the back end camo?), and for it being FR and being V10, the front end looks small... A very compact V10? The car looks small, just look at both the occupant, looks cramped indeed. But 500Bhp? I'll shut up...
oh well.. it is a super car.... same like viper.. etc.. still not exotic..like NSX... i dont see any MR car from japan made it here.. except for NSX.. they could sell their GT1 road version long long time ago.. same like Nissan R390 Road version.. another bad ass MR exotic car...for me as long its FR car.. it cant be that exotic.. super maybe.. monsterous maybe.. but not exotic...

toyota is behind honda in all those racing series.
honda and toyota go hand in hand. if one does something, the other will always do the same. toyota went into IRL, honda went to IRL. Honda went into F1, toyota enter F1. see where i am going? without one, the other feels left alone. haha
