STUTTGART, Germany — If you thought "Maybach" and "sporty" were mutually exclusive terms, you probably forgot that parent DaimlerChrysler owns tuning house AMG. Thus, it was a small matter to create the Maybach 57S, a high-performance edition of the brand's "starter" model.
What sort of performance? The twin-turbocharged 6.0-liter V12 engine has been massaged to deliver 612 horsepower, while torque is electronically limited to a mere 738 pound-feet. That's good enough to propel the mini-limousine from rest to 60 in just under 5 seconds, with top speed nudged to around 170 miles per hour.
AMG also has buttoned down the suspension and lowered the ride height by 15mm, while retuning the adaptive damping and electronic stability control systems.
You'll spot the über-Maybach by its fancier grille and headlamps, rear apron with trapezoidal exhaust outlets, unique 20-inch spoked wheels, and single-tone black or silver paint scheme. If you peek inside the cockpit, you'll also note tasteful applications of carbon fiber and piano black lacquer trim among the subtle modifications.

Now it's ugly AND quick whereas it was just ugly before.
so which is faster? this or the Bentley Continental? i know it's not faster than the Continental R, but what about the 4 door?
Continental GT flying spur is the sedan you have in mind. And its faster than this maybach even though the maybach has more hp (52hp more) and way more tq (250lb-ft more). I believe the Conti flying spur does 0-60 in the same time as this Maybach, but the flying spur tops off at 195mph while this Maybach tops off at 170mph.
Bently > Maybach
The Bently actually looks good and isn't rediculously overpriced.

The Bentley is more attractive, I won't deny that, but I'm thinking MB just has the limiter set to 170, I'm sure the 57S is capable of speeds much higher.

I would pay less than half for the Bentley in a heartbeat.

OMG THATS HIDIOUS!!! the Maybach looks like a cheap hyundai or china knock-off...wtf were they smoking!?!?
Yeah the short version without the two-tone does look really "blah", especially for $350-400k!!! Does not look special, you'd probably get more admiring looks from non-car people in a CLS.

But see the point is, you buy one of these to ride in the back, not to drive it. So I don't see what the point is really, the old Maybach already did 0-60 in 4.9 according to Car and Driver's test. That's as fast as I'd want my chauffer to drive personally.
