DaimlerChrysler announces pricing on Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8
It’s faster than the Porsche Cayenne Turbo and the BMW X5 with a 0-60 time of less than 5 seconds, and yet it’s a fraction of the cost at a mere $39,995 including $675 for destination. The only 4x4 SRT model in DaimlerChrysler’s lineup and the first SRT vehicle in the Jeep lineup is powered by Chrysler’s 6.1 cylinder Hemi engine with 420 hp and 420 lb-ft of torque, and it’s coming to show rooms near you in Bright Silver, Inferno Red and Brilliant Black.
The only SRT model faster than the Jeep is the 510 hp Dodge Viper SRT10. That’s one mean mutha trucka.

Not a bad at all. It strays from Jeeps roots in that it isn't as off-road capable, but it wasn't like anyone was going to do that with the SRT8 anyways. From what i understand, it only has 7.0" of ground clearance, no 4lo since it only has a 1 speed transfer gear, can't be switched over to Rwd (basically an AWD system), and the 20" wheels and low profile tires windout the list of non-offroad friendly/duty parts. This bitch is fast though. I expect 1/4 mile times to be in the 13's, and the 0-60 under 5seconds is very quick. We're talking about an SUV capable of 4.X sec 0-60....a Jeep at that. Guess i never though i'd see the day.
Anyways, official pricing is under 40g's. Good deal. I love what chrysler is doing with the SRT line.
I'm not a fan of any SUV. But they're the muscle cars of the day. Instead of 327 Malibus and big block el Caminos, we have overpowered SUVs, that, like muscle cars, cant stop or turn rapidly. I get my driving enjoyment through curves, not flat out speed, but maybe I'm just weird...

This one isn't that bad in terms of braking and handling. It's no sports car but it puts up some impressive #'s for an SUV.
60-0 braking: 125'
Skidpad: 0.92g's
SRT didn't just up the power, they did some work on the suspension and braking too. That probably explains why its tow rating suffered so much.
It's not going to give you the satisfaction of driving a nimble lightwight 2 sportscar like an s2k or a miata on a windy road, but this isn't the topheavy cumbersome SUV's you and i have been used to driving.

I read those stats on another website, and I was quite impressed. However, My standards of handling and braking are extremely high. I just feel like making an SUV handle well is like making a FWD car drive like a RWD car... its roughly like masturbating with sandpaper. You will get the job done, but it's not worth it...
While I can appreciate any SUV that can hold .92g, its not something for me...

I understand, which is why i said it's no nimble 2 seater roadster or sportscar.

But it's pretty good levels for an SUV.
I would be interested to see it run head to head with the Porsche Cayenne Turbo. Or even the regular Cayenne. I think it would be a good shootout. Both are the top of the line when it comes to "nimble" SUVs...
