honestly the RL doesnt need a V8 like everyone else. Honda has been know for being one step ahead and cutting edge. I think the new RL is perfect for the new Acura lineup. 300 hp out of a V6 is a good number to start at. Honda doesnt need the V8 to make driving powerfull.
I don't know, 300 hp for a V6... that's great, but not amazing. I understand the RL is a more refined ride but compare the M3 I6 and the GT3 flat 6, those engines are amazing. I do agree that this is a good starting point to go along with the SH-AWD. Maybe they can crank it up to 350 hp in the future without losing any fuel efficiency. And hopefully add more torque.
Mods: A pair of angel wings and 2 cans of red bull... Mighty fast!
First of all... Honda would never put a V8 on any of its products. V8 just inherently thirsty, and what Honda has been renowned so far? Environmentally conscious, and something that depletes a non renewable resource should not be called enviromentally conscious.
V8 torque is amazing, but the real application of the power is rare. Then again, if the supposedly "old man" car can beat the venerable Skyline on track, I won't fuss...
Sure a SULEV V8 with minimal fuel consumption would be great though.

Notice that the above thread is in the rumors and new forum. It could quite possibly be more rumor than news.
Remember that it was rumored that the 2005 RL would have a V8 for sure. No such luck. It looks like the RL has a better chance of going hybrid than V8. I still hold that a V8 will only come out of Honda when they are ready to enter the NASCAR series (car or truck). Until then, they will continue to make some of the strongest n/a V6s in the world.

Yup, read that thread, even had wet dreams about it...
Amazing it is for Honda or Acura to bring V8... And I thought the revised MDX will got one (as the news hover when the MDX will get an MMC, and the spy pic shows "activity" inside the hood), but Honda always surprises us (or let us down, depends on what one might think).
Strange, as Honda dominates the IRL with its V8, we doesn't get anything near a production V8. Nascar... V8 RWD Accord... Creepy...
I'm not against V8 by Honda, I would support anything Honda/Acura do to their line ups to once and for all shut the bitching critics about power on Honda/Acura cars.

honda can make a 400 V6. but still won't be considered among the ranks of the 5 series, E class, or A6 cars. not yet at least. the public wont' accept the RL, as fine a car it really is, as a prestigous luxury car as they do with those mentioned. they'll buy the RL if they can't afford those other cars and be happy with their purchase, but in the back of their minds, the RL wasn't their first choice.
as good, or as bad for that matter, as the actual car itself may be, these are image cars. the brand, acura, just doesn't roll off the tongue like mercedes, lexus or audi for example - cars that have that established prestige factor. value is always nice as are quality, reliability, and high technological features - but without the prestige, it can sell well but won't have the same respect level.
look at mercedes and audi, both companies are notorious for their quality and reliability issues. yet they are still among the most respected luxury cars. lexus, as boring as they have become, is the only japanese brand to reach this level and offer good quality and reliability as a selling tool. i think acura can do the same with a V8 offering, and AWD as options on all their cars like audi. acura already has the quality/reliability thing goin for them.
I'll never understand why people buy into that nameplate crap. Just give me the freakin best car that has the best price.
Compared to the Germans, the new RL will be a greater value. Everything standard, no options driving the price insanely higher. It will be superior in build quality and apparently equal in quality of materials. Styling, it seems, is the weakness of the RL.
The TL looks amazing, but has uninspired handling. The RL probably handles amazingly, but has unispired styling. So we'll have to wait for Acura to make the SH-AWD TL for the complete package.
Love Acura's model descriptions: TL - the performance luxury sedan and the RL - the luxury performace sedan. Real creative.
P.S. My father could easily afford to buy a new Merc, BMW - 3,5,7, Audi, Lexus, whatever. But he choose an Acura TL, because it's clearly the best value in it's class. And with the exception of the front wheel drive, it's a fine car. His fiance, paid almost the same amount for a 3-series that doesn't have navigation or an engine rated over 200 hp. She could have purchased a TSX with nav, 200+ horsepower, better styling IMHO, MP3 player, and much better build quality for significantly less. Oh, and she's even too scared to drive on the highway, but she just had to be a Bimmer girl like the 975,353 other clones in Orange County, CA.
