TOKYO, Japan, December 13, 2005– Honda Motor Co., Ltd. debuted a new ASIMO humanoid robot which features the ability to pursue key tasks in a real-life environment such as an office and an advanced level of physical capabilities. Compared to the previous model, the new ASIMO achieves the enhanced ability to act in sync with people – for example, walking with a person while holding hands. A new function to carry objects using a cart was also added. Further, the development of a “total control system” enables ASIMO to automatically perform the tasks of a receptionist or information guide and carry out delivery service. In addition, the running capability is dramatically improved, with ASIMO now capable of running at a speed of 6km/hour and of running in a circular pattern.
Key specifications of the new ASIMO (in comparison with the “next-generation” ASIMO that debuted December 11, 2004) :
Quote:
1. Running speed: 6km/hour (previous model: 3km/hour)
- Airborne time: 0.08 second (previous model: 0.05 second)
- Distance ASIMO moves forward while both feet are off the ground : 50mm
2. Normal walking speed: 2.7km/hour (previous model: 2.5km/hour)
3. Speed of running in a circular pattern: 5km/hour (2.5m radius)
4. Walking speed while carrying objects: 1.6km/hour
(based on carrying object: weighing 1kg)
5. Height: 130cm
6. Weight: 54kg
7. Operating degrees of freedom: Total 34 degrees of freedom
Asimo's hand now has a feeling sensor.... Wow... I always thought Honda will set aside this pet project one day, but that one day never really happen, instead they kept improving the little buddy. Damn, I'm not surprised if one day Asimo can drive a car... A Honda that is.
Check out the videos, I laugh when I see Asimo runs, it looks like a scene from forest gump (which by the way, a very good movie)... It jiggles! And also check out the pics where Asimo banks to the side like a real pro runner... Will Honda ever going to give Asimo to the military? It looks almost ready, in 5 years time, I bet it can aim and shoot with precision.

Nope, it's a work in progress... Dating from the 1986 till now, only few of very rich Japanese company can buy one, as a greeter. But it is said that it guides people in museum... What museum?
The redesigned Asimo has its whole arm literally cut off and replaced. Look at how different it is than the 2004 model. The power pack size is also reduced, also, the body is rounder... Niceeee... Little improvements, but still, a gargantuan feat for a small company like Honda.
i think you can but they are expensive as hell...
i don't really know what to say about this whole robot thing...except for good for Honda inventing the technology

Hahahahh pretty funny. The whole asimo thing is pretty interesting and it would be cool to see honda make these things cost friendly in the FAR future. But yeah Asimo reminds me a lot of the Jetsons ( awesome cartoon ).
