Scion TC RWD... A Sign of Things Down the Road?

Scion Presents 400Hp Rear-Wheel-Drive tC Coupe for Formula Drift

when i read this, i immediately thought to myself that toyota has let it be known that it was thinking about releasing a successor to the beloved hachi roku...

today i came across this:
Subaru & Toyota Officially Confirm Joint-Development of Rear-Wheel Drive Compact Coupes

it would truly be great to once again have a lightweight, economical sports car again, not just roadsters in the vein of miatas, skies, etc...

an honest-to-buddha 4cyl rwd sports coupe/hatch...

the 80's are calling...

let the fun begin!

I see toyota as my enemy, but that's just me being silly, but it would be really sweet if they brought back a version if the 86, well not the same cuz it's a legend in it self, but something along those lines, when I read Gunma I immediatelly though INITIAL D (crap I just finished watching the whole series about a week ago) brings back memories.

Toyota has a habit lately of making their cars look as slow and boring as most of them really are. I hope they don't screw the pooch on a new RWD sport econobox. IMO, just to be safe, they should try not to name it 'Corolla GTS' either. If they do, it could potentially suffer the same fate as the Pontiac GTO.

i think there SHOULD be some semblance of the practical/utilitarian look, which the good ol' hachi roku, not to mention, all '80s/'90s sporty japanese brand cars had... even hondas...

though there was a definite athletic look to them as well... some balance would be optimal...

i hope they don't go too crazy and scream attention from the get-go...

not all of us are 18 year old college/high school students with their mentality for attention...

When i first heard of Scion making the TC, i thought it was a rwd car to begin with. I was all gitte and what not. Then, when i found out it was only fwd, i was so let down.

But, if toyota does make a rwd coupe or hatchback, i might be tempted to go toyota, seeing the the only rwd car that honda makes thats affordable is the s2k.

Pertaining to the subaru/toyota deal:

It'd be cool if they do this right. Meaning they don't come out with a bubbly car that looks like it took too many trips to the chinese buffet.

That would definitely be something I'd have to check out. Personally, I haven't seen a Toyota that evokes any sort of passionate response since the MR-2 and Supra. Even Hyundai is releasing a 4 cyl. turbo/6 cyl. rear drive coupe for the tuning set. I can only hope it's a sign of good things to come; now if Honda would just follow suit and release something to compete

I'll believe it when I see it. Toyota has worked really hard over the last decade or so to flog every last bit of fun and soul out of their entire lineup, and they have achieved almost total success. If they do it, I'd be pleasantly surprised.

let's just hope they don't remove the last bastion of character and driving enjoyment out of subaru...

though some of toyota's jdm line (daihatsu and toyota) do have some truly unique stuff...

hm. that's nice i guess. give toyota a couple more years and they'll market their own hydrogen vehicle as if it was their idea, just like what they did with hybrids. that's what i'm really looking forward to from toyota.

death to toyota.

Poor Subaru, I read about that this car is going to be sold under both the Toyota and Subaru brand. It will be chaotic at best if they are sold under one market *cough*America*cough*, you know which brand will be most bought... Considering that all other Toyota joint venture cars looks the same only with different badges... Meh, why wouldn't this new venture will be the same?

Example of Toyota joint venture cars, Toyota Rush/Daihatsu Terios and Toyota Passo/Daihatsu Boon. They all are cars made by Daihatsu, but with same physical styling, the Toyota version enjoys better demand (thus better resale value). Unless the Subaru version features turbo and AWD, I'm not interested with this... Toyota.

This news = Toyota latest ass raped victim, Subaru.
