I gotta say, Nathan123 is right. While 37mpg is nothing to sneeze at, it's certainly not impressive from a 1.5L 4cyl that only makes 105hp and is pulling around a car that weighs what, 2400lbs? Heck, even the 15yr old SOHC LL0 motor in Saturns from 96-02 got that kind of mileage and even though the hp was 5 lower, it had 120ft/lbs, so it was peppy around town, fun to drive and easy to merge on the freeway.

It's pulling around 2000lbs of weight, Asian spec Jazz only weighs in at 990 Kg, the JDM version weighs in at 1000 Kg. The lightest Honda car is around 800 something Kg (the car on my sig).
Pff that's nothing the TDI gets 40mpg (US gallons) in the city and 49 on the highways and it's a 1.9L with over 150 lbs of torque and it's hauling a car that weighs over 2500 pounds, kick ass.

at 1000kg, that's still 2200lbs. yes, not a lot of weight to pull, but that engine just seems so anemic, and it's not torquey? it doesn't even sound like it would be fun to drive. hopefully i'm wrong, but i suppose we'll see.

Fun to drive or not, the purpose of a car that damn small is economy and economy alone. And it SUCKS at that.

one could argue the same of a civic, but it still is fun to drive and has built a following based on that. but as I first said, I agree w/ you that the mileage is not that impressive.

I must say... 37 mpg is pretty damn shitty for a rediculously tiny car with a 1.5L engine.
It is, and I'd be surprised if it stayed that shitty in the final numbers. Honda is all about fuel economy and those numbers just don't make sense, I'd be very surprised if that was its actual rating once it hits production.
Civic = 1.8L, ~2800lbs, 40mpg highway with an auto
Accord = 2.4L, ~3200lbs, 34mpg highway with an auto
Fit = 1.5L, ~2200lbs?, 37mpg? Just doesn't make sense to me. It would be really sad if that's what it ended up as.

I was worried this would be just like the corolla vs echo/scion mpg. The scions are geared really tightly to give it decent accelleration. 80mph is like 4000rpms, same as my old gsr, except that their engine only revs to ~6.5k-7k. I guess it's probably the same with the fit.
