RL with a rotten eggs smell

I have a 2002 RL with less than 2k miles on it and once in a while the inside of the car will smell like rotten eggs...Is there something wrong with the exhaust?

Typically when there is a "rotten eggs" smell, the catalytic convertor has gone bad. This may or may not be the problem; it usually takes a long time for a cat to go bad.

If it only has 2000 miles on it, take it back to the dealer and complain.

Is the smell there right when you start the car up or after its been driven? driving a car hard can make a cat smell like eggs...

I work in the service department of a Lexus dealership and Lexus just issued an informational TSIB for "rotten egg smell". It is happening in newer car with ultra high emission standards. The cars are so efficient at burning the fuel that the by product is the sulfter left in the fuel. Car manufacturer can not do anything about this. It could only be fixed by the fuel refining process which would be very expensive to remove all the sulfter. Government regulation would be about the only way they would spend the extra money to do it. Sorry about the smell.

We are going to take it back to the dealer soon. The smell is even when your driving it, not just when starting it. The car has only been getting 12 miles to the gallon. And I drive it slow, never beat on it.
