Blu-ray too Small for Metal Gear Solid 4
Blu-ray too Small for Metal Gear Solid 4
Kojima speaks out to Famitsu.
by Martin Robinson, IGN UK
UK, March 3, 2008 - It seems that the tech companies will never be able to keep up with the demands of a Metal Gear Solid game, with Hideo Kojima stating in a Famitsu interview that Guns of the Patriots suffered cuts in order to fit onto to a Blu-ray disc.
At 50GB, the Blu-ray offers nearly six times the storage capacity of a DVD – but it's still not enough for the demands of Metal Gear Solid 4. Earlier last week the game's assistant producer Ryan Payton confessed that the American and European versions would not carry the Japanese voice track due to storage limitations. Hideo Kojima further elaborated on the issue and stated in a Famitsu interview, kindly translated by Kotaku, that, "There's not enough space. We always talked about where to cut and what to compress."
It's already known that Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots will be dialogue-heavy – to an extent that could well outstrip its quite comically verbose predecessors. But the possibility of the amount of chattering outstripping even a Blu-ray disc is quite terrifying. Brace yourself for an earful come June 12.

Yeah, I admit I'll miss the J-language track. But if that's the main tradeoff in the game's content, then I'm A-OK w/ that. I'd rather a voice track get's pulled then some game play feature.

The voice track was pulled to make room for uncompressed PCM 5.1 audio, so I will greatfully embrace this once I get my new setup.
Besides, no MGS title prior had JPN voice tracks, so I dont' see what the fuss is, aside from gamers having something to complain about, thus, they complain (what else is new).

Werd. David Hayter (I think that's his name) does a great job IMHO in the US version of the game. Ditto for the rest of the English language voice talent.
Well... OK, maybe Raiden was kinda weak in English.

Raiden wasn't kinda weak in english, he was EXTREMELY weak in english. Ugh. Great character, and he was awesome to play in MGS2, but the VA was terrible. Hopefully they polish it up for MGS4, either way, it'll be one of my personal games of the year, bar none.
MGS4, Resistance 2, LBP, and SSBB all in one year is just too much. There really isn't much else coming out that I consider GOTY material, to me.

People always find something to complain about... and this holds true for virtually every product known to man. There is always something that could be bigger/better.
