European gamers looking to pick up a PlayStation 3 may have the perfect excuse to finally take the plunge as Sony is bundling GTA IV with the PS3 hardware in conjunction with the game's launch.

Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) officials today announced the impending release of a special Grand Theft Auto IV PS3 hardware bundle, which will include a 40GB PS3, a copy of the highly anticipated Rockstar game and a Sixaxis controller (not DualShock 3). The bundle will retail for 439 euros (about $697) and will launch in conjunction with GTA IV on April 29.

"We are delighted to offer the millions of PS3 and GTA fans the ultimate gaming package," said David Reeves, President, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe.

The bundle will also make its way to Australia and New Zealand but there's been no word from SCEA on the bundle coming to America. The U.S. will be receiving the Metal Gear Solid 4 bundle on June 12, however.

Thats pretty expensive for the 40g system and the game. I wonder if ppl will be smarter and buy the system and the game seperate to save over $100.

Keep in mind the PS3 retails for a higher price in Europe, mainly because the Euro is currently worth much more than the U.S. dollar.

However, even with that factored in, the price does seem quite steep for a 40GB system...

whats the new 40gbs do anyways? mines the original 60gb. do they have a 80gb now too?

What? Yes, there are both 40GB and 80GB models out at the moment... the 60GB is no longer in production... that's old news man.

The 60gb is the only way to go cuz its the only one that came out being backwards compatible with ps1 and ps2 games.

oh so no ps1 and ps2 games can be played on the new systems? thats gay well since i have the 60 gb system i never did read up on what the 40 and 80 did. so even the 80 gb dont have bacwards compat?

IIRC, both the 40GB and 80GB models will play PS1 games. The 40GB WILL NOT play ANY PS2 games, while the 80GB model will play the majority, BUT NOT ALL, PS2 games. The 60GB really is the way to go, as it will play every single PS1 and PS2 game.
