Metal Gear Online Impressions
Spent a very good amount of time playing this just now (should have been playing GTA IV, but this sucked me in).
Team work is rewarded in this game like no other. It's absolutely essential to use the SOP system and team work. It is SO easy to plan out things and use your team mates as leverage to win in team based games. Planning and communication are awesome in this game, far above any other I've played.
Snake. OH MY GOD. Sneaking missions are so freaking intense when you're snake. Basically, you become 'invisible' when the octocamo is active, so there are moments when 5 enemies will just walk right by you, or you will literally be right in the middle of a firefight and no one even knows you're there. I had an absolute blast picking off members of a team one by one with my sniper rifle. The objective is to get their dog tags, but MAN is that hard.
The rest of the game is really good, leveling up your abilities is really rewarding (because it can make a huge difference). The best part of the game, IMO, are the drebin matches.
Basically, you get points to 'spend' on ammo, add ons, and weapons during the match. Kills get you points, deaths take them away. It makes each and every kill feel that much more rewarding to know you'll get some really kickass ammo.
Using the sleeping gas mines + Sniper Rifle from a distance and just watching your bait until the enemy passes out and is lying there helplessly...FUCKING PRICELESS.
So much better than I first thought it was. I thought it would be average like the original MGO, but it's SO SO SO much better.

It's a shame more of you SHO scrubs didn't get into thsi beta, because it's fucking spectacular.
Originally I didn't like it much, but DAMN, sneaking missions are hands down the coolest mutliplayer thing I've ever seen (yes, even compared to GTA IV).
Absolutely nothing beats 2 players working together, 1 as Snake and the other as Mk-II. Absolutely amazing.

Me too but, only because I've got a need for havoc. I need to 'splode things and go fast. Unfortunately, MGO doesn't give me enough boomy things and cars. Of course, cars really wouldn't fit too well in the MGO world but, still.
That's not to say that I didn't enjoy MGO... MGO was a blast and, if I could get my friends to stop being so poor and get PS3s, we'd be in business.
Fortunately, my sisters boyfriend is getting his PS3 soon for MGSIV and my best friend may soon be a PS3 owner as well.
*Tha_CON... what are these sneaking missions you speak of? It almost sounds like a coop mode from what I've read but, it's 2AM so, I may have misread.

I can't say I enjoyed GTA IV more, multiplayer at least. GTA IV is fun, but being Military, I find tactical shooters a bit more enjoyable, especially team oriented ones. MGO is just so damn team heavy it really makes a huge difference, especially when you're playing the Sneaking Missions.
LSC - Sneaking missions have two opposing teams fighting each other, and one player playing as Solid Snake trying to steal dog tags from either teams members. If there are more than 10 players, then Snake get's a valuable ally in the form of the Mk II. One player will take control of Mk II, which helps greatly for snake, and makes for awesome team work. There is nothing better than taking out a whole team of people one by one as a two man team. So freaking satisfying.
Unfortunately, I can't play either online anymore, since I'm in Ft Sill, Okla-fucking-homo, and the interenet is TERRIBLE and the Army Lodging I'm staying in just blocked off all the ports for gaming.
The only fun part of the game is crippling the other people with CQC+KNIFE and teabaggin the hell outta them and when they wake up, they'll be distracted by all the PORN MAGS you secretly placed around the corner. One more electric stab from the KNIFE and the teabaggin starts all over again.

To each their own, I strongly disagree, but whatever.
Playing with a team was amazing, apparently you didn't do that? I enjoyed it a lot. Far better than grenade spamming first person shooters that are currently out. I enjoy those as well, but it grows tired rather quickly.

I don't think it was the controls, I think it was the pace. I've noticed you like faster shooters, and MGO is most definitely a slower paced game, compared to Resistance, Vegas, or Call of Duty.
Perhaps my view on the controls is slanted since I'm somewhat of a seasoned Metal Gear player, and I've watched the controls evolve, and this is by far and wide the best controls a Metal Gear title has ever had.

I'd say fairly similar. Maybe more so, since it's easier to die in MGO.
In MGO, if you have a team with a demolitions man (shot gun, heavy weaponry) a ranged fighter (rifles and sniper rifles) and a mid range attacker (sub machine guns) then you'll do wonderfully.
The problem is, the folks who hate it, probably have no idea how to use SOP, how to wake up team mates, how to use team mates to boost onto high platforms, etc.
SOP can tell you when a team mate is under attack, knocked out, has been killed, etc. You'll basically always know the status of your team mate and where he is, which greatly enhances your ability to function as a team (especially when coupled with voice chat).
I could name scenarios for hours, but it's best if you just find a group of people willing to actually discuss tactics for different maps and game types. It's an extremely rewarding game.

well I was good at Rainbow 6 Vegas too and that was slow pace. I think the camera angles and stuff gets me in MGO. plus my hands hurt real bad after playing for a short while. I dont mind the slow pace in single player mode but online mode i dont like it
