I thought GTP was supposed to support 2 player split screen. I see that you noted the game as being 1 player with up to 16 online. Are they not throwing split screen into prologue after all?

Sorry, split screen was announced, I just forgot to put it in the OP. Nice catch :P I'll update it!

They just released 'spec II' in Japan, which added all the US cars, etc, so I assume that in the US, we'll release a 'new spec' over time as well, hopefully updated with new cars, and maybe some new tracks and / or features.

I'm holding my breath for a Photomode update, and some serious tuning to the Online racing. Polyphony is still in their 'infant' stages of online experience, so GT5: Prologue isn't that great, feature wise.

Though, spec II added a point restriction, so you can tune, but it effects your 'points' (similar to Forza with the classes) and you can only have a certain point limit. Very very awesome.

Note: They also apparently made it possible to finally map the 'look left and look right' feature to the controller (previously limited to the new GT5 wheel and the G25).

Tuning: You can now tune your car with 3 configurations, helps in online races, you can have a high tune, mid, and low end.

Spec II (for importers) improves the stability and visual fidelity considerably. Spec II is reflective of the US version, which is good. Tearing has been significantly reduced, frame drops are not as frequent, rear view mirror (as well as side mirrors) have been improved a LOT.

The online has been having problems, but I believe it is because they are upgrading / updating servers. We'll see how it turns out shortly. Overall, if the NA version is identical to this (which it will be, as far as I can tell) it will play very very well, and should be a lot of fun.

is that inside view how it will look in game or can you see across the whole dash? it looks like a big step forward but imo it should include the entire windshield

It's one of the many available views. There isn't a view that lets you see the whole dashboard, however, you can map your buttons as you want, and there is the option to have a 'pan' button so you can look left and right while racing.

IGN Review: IGN: Gran Turismo 5 Prologue Review

The AI is much improved, the online, while basic, works really well, and the series (or really any other racing game in existence) has never been more realistic nor arguably fun to drive (with Burnout being its only "fun" competition).

Prologue is not necessarily a game for someone who wasn't quite into Gran Turismo in the past and is thinking of giving it another go (that'll be the full GT5 release next year), but it's definitely a worthy pickup for fans of the franchise.

IGN Ratings for Gran Turismo 5 Prologue (PS3)

8.0 Presentation
The cars are the star of the show and are presented brilliantly. The small track selection is obviously a drawback, but to be expected.

9.0 Graphics
The in-car view is fantastic, and the lighting models are awesome. There are some lingering filtering issues here and there, but it looks amazing overall.

9.5 Sound
Engine sounds are, bar none, the best anywhere. Decent soundtrack too.

8.5 Gameplay
No game drives better or more realistically than this. If only there were more tracks and cars, this score would go way up.

8.0 Lasting Appeal
The limited number of tracks may be disappointing, but it's so fun to drive that hardcore fans won't care too much. The online stuff, while basic, is also good.

8.5
Great OVERALL

I can understand why they'd give GT5:P 8's in their Presentation and Lasting Appeal categories. So I'm expecting the full version would get at least a .5-1 higher score for those two sections. That would push the rating up to the 9 range.

Very respectable IMHO.

Can't wait for GT5:P to drop later this month. In fact I've been playing 4 as a warm-up!

The only thing is that I wish D-P went with the Daytona Rolex setup instead of the tri-oval.
