Optional Hard Disk Install For Valkyria Chronicles
Optional Hard Disk Install For Valkyria Chronicles Sega gives players the option for faster loads.
by IGN Staff
April 14, 2008 - With its April 24 Japanese release date approaching fast, Sega has apparently deemed the time right to share copies of Senjou no Valkyria (Valkyria Chronicles in Western markets) with the Japanese press. Impress Watch got an early taste of the game and delivered a lengthy hands-on impressions piece that managed to deliver, amongst the gameplay details, one piece of news.
According to the site, Valkyria offer players the option for a hard disk install. The install takes up 3,336 MB and apparently cuts down load times from the 15 second waits players would otherwise have to sit through when opting to play directly from disc.
As with last month's Ryu ga Gotoku Kenzan install, this install is strictly optional, so those who can't find enough space on their hard disk will still be able to play.

Mods: JDM H22a Swap, Greddy SS Header, Greddy SP Cat Back, Car Sound highflow Cat, Skunk2 Cam gears (tuned), Light weight Flywheel, AEM CAI and Short Ram (I switch for different things). ON THE WAY: JUN Valve Train, Jun High Comp Pistons and JUN Flywheel
IF this game is any good, I'll check it out. I'll probably install too, the gains from it are usually pretty good.

I'm just concerned I'm going to run out of HDD space if this becomes a trend.
It's pretty unlikely that you'll run out of HDD space. I mean, what are the chances you'll go back and play an RPG over and over again after you finish it once / twice? Uninstalling it isn't a problem, and a reinstall would take about the same amount of time as watching a sitcom on NBC. I dont' think it's really a problem if it improves the quality of the game, optional or mandatory.
Just playing DMC4 on the PS3 is so muc more fluid, IMO, compared to 360, because I don't have to wait through load times for menu's, cutscenes, and inbetween stages. It's just much more fluid and seamless.

True, but it is an inconvenience to re-install/un-install games frequently just to keep the HDD open.
I'm thinking this will become a trend, and to assuage the problem the next round of consoles will come with much larger HDD's!
