Shadow of the Colossus

Big big fan of ICO so now that Shadow's been released, I went out and picked it up.

Just like Genji I haven't really gotten to around to giving it a lot of play time. I'll most a review as I get more familiar with the game.

Anybody else get it?

It's awesome.

Buy it.

Not much replay value, but it's WELL worth the $39.99 price tag.

ICO was the same way. No dialogue just the sound of birds, machinery, waves, the wind, etc. The only thing said throughout the whole game was the girl's name when you called her.

I started playing it a bit.

Controlling the camera angle is a bit tough. So is trying to travel around and find the Colossi. But the depth and feel of the exteriors is very beautiful.

Anybody else play yet? I shot the fruits out of the tree and killed a couple black lizards w/ the silvery looking tails. Not sure if they have any benefit to me.

BTW: How did yo guys like the instruction manual? Mostly just big pictures of the desired actions, and a small caption of how to do it. Very refreshing and intuitive compared to most instructions out there.

It's not I just happened to find out through random boredom.

Also, I would recommend it, the last colossus can be a REAL pain. Eat up!

I played again for maybe 45 minutes last night.

I rode around the mountains ringing the grassy plain where you first start off at. Jumped off of the horse to whip out my sword and point it at things a few times. Tried scaling the cliffside w/o any success, couldn't figure out if you can save anywhere or need to reach specific save points, and checked out a couple ruins.

Started getting hungry so I turned the game off to go eat my din-din. So I guess you could say my session wasn't much of a big deal.

So the itty-bitty mini ruins are save points?

Learn something new everyday I guess...

Yea, the small ruins are the save points.

How many colossi have you beaten yet?

Zero!!

Because it seemed kinda pointless to confront a foe if I couldn't save, I just decided to ride around and check out the scenery. Plus I could scale the cliffside directly from the Dormin temple.

I did visit the ruins on the otherside of the mountains, where the light shines through the round window and onto the circular pattern on the floor. Very mysterious looking.

jeeze you went ALL the way out there!?!! hahaha.

The first colossi is one of the funnest IMO, I love it. He's RIGHT a head of the Dormin temple, you just have to scale up some leaves and stuff, it runs you through a tutorials when you get there, just shine your sword and it'll point you in the right direction

There's really no need to save btw, unless you travel REALLY far to fight one, which happens later int he game. But it auto saves after each colossi fight.

^ Good to know about the saves.

Yeah, I've gone straight ahead to the cliffs where the steps are. I kinda jumped around like a monkey for a bit but didn't climb up too high. I'm still not totally good with the controls yet, it still takes me a couple tries to get up on the horse, etc.

Don't worry, everyone has problems with it, haha. It STILL took me a couple of tries getting on the horse.

Really the only way to get "decent" with the controls in this game is to be patient, for example, jumping off of ledges etc, you'll need to get good at it, as well as jumping onto the colossi, sometimes you're required to climb huge places then jump off the towers onto them. Very awesome though!

Each battle just feels so...epic. I loved it.
