New Nintendo Console Before 2010?
New Nintendo Console Before 2010?
Could Nintendo be planning to release a new console so soon after the Wii? Yes, says analyst Evan Wilson, who believes MS will launch a new console in 2010 and Nintendo before then.

It's only been a bit over a year since Nintendo's Wii stormed the video game industry, and yet some believe that the company is preparing to launch a new console in a couple years or less. In his latest research note following Electronic Arts' analyst day, Pacific Crest Securities' Evan Wilson said that Nintendo would be first to hit the market, beating Microsoft and Sony to the punch.
"We believe that peak industry sales will occur in 2010, given that Microsoft will likely introduce its next console that year and Nintendo will likely launch before then. Further, 2010 is also likely to coincide with the end of the Nintendo DS and Sony PSP cycles," he said.
If Wilson is right, 2010 could be a very interesting year. Some have predicted that Nintendo would look to relaunch the Wii with the ability to output high-definition graphics. Whether that's the plan or if 2010 would mark the launch of a true Wii successor is anybody's guess.
As for Microsoft, a launch of the next Xbox in 2010 would seem to conflict with their new philosophy of extending the Xbox 360's lifespan. In the previous generation, the original Xbox got the axe somewhat prematurely to make room for the 360.
