Nintendo: Core Gamers Will Be Satisfied with Our E3 Titles

Nintendo: Core Gamers Will Be Satisfied with Our E3 Titles
Nintendo believes core gamers are still driving the business and the company will have several titles to announce at E3 that should interest the traditional gamer crowd.
by James Brightman on Tuesday, June 17, 2008

With an increasing number of developers looking to create more casual focused titles for Nintendo's Wii and Nintendo itself having already released Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Mario Kart Wii hardcore gamers may not be too sure about what they have to look forward to on the console in the coming months, aside from Mario Super Sluggers. Nintendo has been accused of giving the casual crowd too much attention while only releasing "core" titles every once in a while, but the company insists that its hardcore base is still quite important and they'll see that at this year's E3 next month.

Marc Franklin, director of public relations at Nintendo of America, told GamePro that Nintendo "will be announcing several new titles that core gamers will be interested in around the time of E3."

He added, "The clear majority of people waiting in line outside retailers on Sunday mornings to buy their Wii consoles are core gamers."

Franklin noted that we should start seeing a change in the third-party offerings for Wii as well. "Look at the plans being made by third-party publishers," he remarked. "They realize that Wii is the current platform of choice in this generation, and their bottom lines depend on appealing to the largest base."
