Report: Wii's Software Library of Poor Quality

Report: Wii's Software Library of Poor Quality
While many gamers adore certain titles at the summit of the Wii's software library, there are a lot of titles that are scraping the bottom of the barrel, defining "shovelware."

GameFunk.com, today issued a report on what it considers to be the biggest problem for the Wii right now: quality level of the software library. Utilizing GameRankings.com, the site compared the libraries of the Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii against each other, qualifying games rated over 80 percent as "good" and those under 60 percent as "poor."

Thanks to GameFunk for the chart

This study found that of the 374 games released for the Xbox 360, 26 percent of the games are good and roughly 24 percent are poor. The PS3's library of 122 games has 33 percent good games and 17 percent poor games. The Wii, by contrast, has seen 189 games released, and 37 percent are counted as poor while only 11 percent are ranked as good. GameFunk also notes that among the 20 games comprising that 11 percent, four are ports of PS2/GCN titles.

"The fault of this lies both in the hands of Nintendo and the gamers," reads the article on GameFunk. "Nintendo as a corporation should want to protect the image of its console. Right now, Nintendo has to enforce some quality control measures. Sony has a nasty reputation amongst developers for declining projects that didn't show off the power of the PlayStation brand. If Nintendo wants the Wii's garbage collector reputation to improve, they should take a trip back to the 16-bit era when they were a bit stricter."
