Rumor: Nintendo to Unveil New DS at E3 2008 Is Nintendo working on a brand new DS handheld? The publisher behind Japanese magazine Famitsu seems to think so. We'll find out at this year's E3 in July.

According to Famitsu publisher Hirokazu Hamamura, as reported by Bloomberg in Japan, Nintendo may be planning to show off a brand new version of its incredibly popular DS handheld. Whether this would be another redesign (and Nintendo clearly likes to redesign its handhelds) or totally new hardware is not clear at this point.
As our friends at Joystiq point out, the timing does seem about right considering the roughly every two years schedule the portables have been released – Game Boy Pocket in '96, Game Boy Color in 98, Game Boy Advance in 2001, Game Boy Advance SP in 2003, Nintendo DS in 2004; Game Boy Micro in 2005 and finally the DS Lite in 2006.
For its part, Nintendo offered a generic "no comment." We certainly wouldn't be surprised if Hamamura turned out to be right.

However, the PSP has been doing quite well as of late.
Still, nothing to bolster sales like another redesign! Lol.
Speaking of which, I have been meaning to buy a DS Lite for quite some time. I've had a DS Phat since launch, and I'm planning on just giving that one to my brother.

Man upgrade that shit already, I did and it is such superior in every way, except the speakers are not as good...
Also, it does seem like that time of the year for them to present a new model out, but with the current success of the DS I dunno if they will. A redesign maybe, but as for a DS 2 maybe not...

I know I know... it looks cooler, the screen is much brighter, it's smaller. Lol, I'm due an upgrade. I've just held off for so long because in the last few years I bought a 360, PS3, and Wii, plus the fact that there is really nothing wrong with my current DS. It just got temporarily pushed to the wayside, you know?
I highly doubt a DS 2, it's not quite that time yet. If there is going to be a DS redesign, we are most likely to see an announcement at some point this summer, possibly E3. Although the DS Lite is doing very well, if Nintendo wants to keep these sales strong, a redesign of the DS wouldn't hurt!
