Just got a 1.5 gallon tank and a betta as a gift from a friend. It now sits in a corner of my desk at work.
The betta is a "crowntail" and is mostly a bright blue w/ small red accents on it's fins.
I don't really know too much about fish, tanks, etc. but I'm slowly trying to become better versed on the subject.

I'm setting up another small (3 gallon) tank.
I have un undergravel filter setup. Right now I have the equipment to run it with an air pump, but I was considering purchasing a power head.
Any opinions on either technique as far as the health of the fish are concerned?
When I finally get the tank set up I'm thinking of 5-6 glo-lite tetras, and either a couple of dwarf gouramis or cory cats.

you're going to kill those too..There is NO WAY the ornamants killed them...you are throwing way too many fish into the tank way to fast..the tank wont be able to cycle and your amonia is going to spike..thus killing all your fish again...I can guarentee you are overfeeding them...which againt raises amonia in the tank because they wont eat it all..and they die..you only want to start a tank off with one or two fish to give it a chance to cycle and develope the biological filter. If the food is hiting the ground you are overfeeding. A fishes stomach is the size of the pupil of its eye. 99% of people who lose fish are overstocking and overfeeding. Orandas are not weak fish. There are far far more delicate things out there thriving in tanks everywhere.

That's a hella big gourami LOL!
I just put 3 blue gourami in my new 10 gallon tank. I also have 5 neon tetra in there too. Not very exotic or anything, but I'm just getting started so I didn't want to begin with anything to expensive. (Plus I was too lazy to cycle my tank with goldfish or other feeder fish).
At the pet store they list gourami as "peaceful surface feeders" but mine and the dwarf blue neons we have at work are actually pretty aggressive to other gourami. Live and learn I guess.

- Fake plant. Not sure how well really plants would do with the under gravel filter.
- Rock = Taken from Lake Chuzenji in Japan. From the same area where Ryosuke & Sudo chit-chat about their first race in Initial D.
- Both a re-circulating filter & under gravel filter.
- I have the temp set to about 79-80 degrees w/o the overhead light on.
A modest setup, but it'll be a good learning aquarium for me.

no clue...my dads had a koi pond for many years but i miss my old cichlids in the 60 gallon i have. i used to have a bunch of convicts, 1 oscar, jack dempsey, red devil, and 2 clown knifes, and texas cichlids. well i had to clean the whole tank off cus fishes would die off slowly.
with my orandas this time i feed them like once every day or two days. well i got rid of my old filter and my ornaments. i guess what probably didnt help was i had a convict that had his face ripped off by another fish and he died in the rocks. he was found all rotted up
