same 60 gallon tank as I always had. hopefully they breed soon. Im planning to keep it an all cichlid tank.
My local Dodge dealer had a Vertical style tank wtih convicts that made me want to start up again on cichlids so finally all my goldfishes passed away. they were just too boring for me.

I'm well aware of that. I have sevrums also. But if you have adult convicts and juvinille sevrums, the chiclids are going to demolish them. If they dont kill them, they will be very small for a long time. My brother in law had an established chiclid tank, he put 4 juvinille convicts in, they took over his tank, and killed off all but one of his adults.

You only want to change them when the water isnt flowing through them anymore. And if you have two filters you only want to change one at a time so you dont throw away all the biological shit

Just noticed this thread and thought I should share. I have 8 tanks in my bedroom biggest is 100g. I'm looking into houses at the moment, soon as that goes through I have major plans for the basement and a lot more tanks. I keep mainly African Cichlids, a few types of pleco's, and even some guppies. I get the best quality I can so I can get them to breed and sell and trade the young to help pay for the hobby and to ensure I am only spreading good genes around.
Here is a few pics from my photobucket album:

Never would be my answer, just rinse them with aquarium water really well in a bucket and if need be spray them down with the outside hose(only when they are to clogged for the other). You want to avoid using non aquarium water to rinse them as long as possible as it will preserve the bio load in the filter. But after a few time rinsing the bucket method doesn't work as well so you can resort to the hose and it will be like new again.
All you tristate fish heads, have you checked out NYCichlids lately?

do you guys feed your chichlids live food (worms, feeder fish, etc.) or can you get away with the wafers, frozen shrimp/worms, etc.?
