I have feed flake, koi pellets, guppies..they will eat damn near anything..and I also have a lot of different fish in my tank...by all practiacal purposes my tank shouldnt work because of the types of fish I have, but it does.

It takes a long time...I had that same filter and it takes a really long time..like stated above you can get away with rinsing them for a long time. The only down side with that is that carbon breaks down and sisnt as effective over time..and liek he said, rinsing with sink water isnt what you want to do because there is chlorine and ammonia in tap water that kills the baceria built up on the filter. But honestly, if you do one at a time and you tank is healthy, you can rinse them int he sink with no adverse effects. And you onyl want to change them out when they become so clogged you cant rinse it out, but I would say twice a year you should replace the filter because of the carbon. Int he penguin 300 you have the two filters. Shange/clean them seperately, give it about a week or two between cleanings to help with the bio load

You might be ok..the convicts might become territorial, especially when they start breeding. One thing you can do if you see that, is to rearrange the tank, they will be soo busy trying to find a new territory that they wont be able to fight with anyone

yea they seem to be ok cept for occassional chasing around like they do to each other.

im feeding mine koi food, leftover oscar pellets for now.

maybe get some cichlid food later if it makes a difference...or ill bum koi pellets from my dad

as they start killing eachother off and the crowding goes down..plan on this problem getting worse...and the sevrums, though they are a chiclid...they are pussies..they are semi aggressive..convicts are very aggressive and are like roaches.

first time i seen a pleco be killed...my old setups they used to be ok. plecos never really get bothered.

my old setup had alot of deaths i think i had like 6 convicts, 1 oscar, 1 red devil, 2 texas, 2 clown knifes and ect

something weird happened today, i got home and my red swordtails left fin is like not moving and looks like the top half of the has been eaten off.

whats weird is i have no aggressive fish in the tank, and i never see any of the fish chasing him around in a aggressive manner. EVER. i dunno what happened.

he may not have been eaten. Swordtails don't live very long, so he may be on his last leg, so his immune system takes a dive and the bacteria starts to eat the fins.
