how warm is your tank? Because the life cycle of ick is dependent on the temperature of the tank and cold water brings on stress. When you see the white spots on the fish, you cant treat that. They are like a cyst and you have to wait for that to burst. When that bursts it releases mroe toxins into the tank but you can trea tit. By warming up the water you will speed up the life cycle of the bacteria and you can treat it faster. but its very difficult to deal with. Every tank has ick present, but it cant take over until a fish is stressed and its immune system is down.
well lets see...a giant gourami...about 17-18 inches long, 3 silver dollars fullgrown, an adult sevrum, 1 tinfoil barb, 2 parrot fish, a red devil, 1 electric yellow, 1 placo, 1 synodondus cat, 2 or 3 convicts, 1 pink convict, 1 auratus, 1 jack dempsy, and 1 firemouth. all in an 80 gallon..I was looking at a 150 gallon today, thats in the extremely near future for my fish and I'm going to go with either the 80 planted, or plant a 50 I have and turn the 80 into a vivarium for my tokay geckos
By all standard thinking, my tank should not work. But the water quality is good, everyone is healthy, andno aggression problems.

hey rog...live bearing fish like yours, come into fish stores old already..so unless your tank is established or you get lucky and get young ones, they wont last long and wont have enough time to get established and breed in your tank.

the thing with live bearing fish, is the breeders already used them up, and they still want to make a buck on them, so they sell them when they are close to their deaths..its sucks but thats how it is. Live beareres are difficult to keep alive

its at room temp in the 80s which should be fine. i do notice that everytme i get a fish from petsmart it ends up having the ick. i added some treatment maybe it will clear up in a few days. damn isnt that too small for a 80 gallon for your fishes?

its too small mainly for our big fish..he could survive in the 80 the rest of his life and be jsut fine, but thats why we're looking at about 150 gallon
