that's low for terrible service cuz if you didn't like the service it's "supposed" to be 5-10% of the tab. i'm not hating on u i'm just pointing out typical service tipping... bad service is anywhere from 5-10, regular is around 15, and great is around 20. some people tip more, some ppl tip less. at my job 15 % is automatically included in all our checks but i'm still friendly and ask if they need anything, check up on them regularly (but am conscious about how often i go by, i hate annoying waiters/bartenders who check up on u every 2 secs!!! gr.).
most of the time if i have extra time on a serving shift on my hands i'll just walk around my establishment (a pool hall), picking up garbage, or just walk to the front and chat with the greeter, just to make myself available. it works and is great because you're there if someone needs something and you aren't bothering the customers.
and about the cop thing, they do make pretty ridiculous low wages for the danger they're put in... but my friend is a cop and he says most of the time he's patrolling trying to find something to do or something to write a ticket for.
X2222222 that the only cops or firemen i'd tip are from chip n dales or some shit like that :P lmaooooo!

No most of the cops I know when they are not on a call they are sitting around talking. There are a few of us that actually patrol and do proactive work. I am trying to catch some auto burglars so I am walking neighborhoods at 4am. I'm in Florida and its still in the 80's at night. With over 25 pounds of stuff on, I say that would be deserving of a tip. But I am like a ninja and travel the shadows, no one even see's what i am doing. I was walking and heard a car door the other day, I snuck up to the lady until I was in her neighbors yard, she never knew I was there. When I first heard the sound I thought I got a criminal for sure, my heart was pounding like crazy. After I sneak up I find out its just a lady getting ready to go to work early. lol But that is another example of stuff people don't know cops do.

I went on a ride along with a friend who is a cop, he does the proactive shit, walking the beat. He won't even pull people over for traffic violations, we were chilling at a light and this dude runs a solid red right in front of us (like 1am) and my friend is like "that motherfucker just ran that light right in front of me! hahaha" we proceed to sit there and watch the dude keep going.
He like to patrol the parks looking for bums to run off, or sneak up on sleeping ones behind buildings, rolling though the ghetto ass motels, stopping people walking down the streets after 1am.
He loves what he does and thinks he makes good money, no tips necessary.

When people see cops just sitting around, and think they're doing nothing, it makes me want to dick slap them in the face. Besides Christmas, Thanksgiving, or secondary overtime, its hard to actually remember when I wasnt doing something.
exactly. most jobs society deems tip-worthy are considered that way because the people don't make a living wage and actually work for tips.
x2, my g/f waitresses at $3.75 an hour, without tips it doesn't even pay for the daycare for her son so she can go to work
personally, I'll usually tip 10% if I feel they've done a good job, more if I feel like they really deserve it, but It's not automatic, if my drink sits empty forever.. it takes 20 minutes to take our order when there's no1 else there, etc. etc... you ain't gettin shit

I also base my tips on the quality of service. If they do a poor job for whatever reason (usually because I'm fairly young and therefore apparently a bad tipper) then they're going to get a matching shitty tip. If the service is average then they'll get their 15%. If they do a great job then they'll get 20-30%. Been there, done that...you can make great money if you have the personality and patience to deal with a variety of people.
i am not going to put pics of my boobs on here.. you couldnt handle it..
i could! i could!

standard for a good job is 15. just fyi... cuz u might think you're tipping ur server/bartender a normal amount, when ur actually tipping him or her under. the standard is bad service 5-10, regular 15, and great is 20.

your point? I said I tip 10%, not that 10% is universally standard. People have different standards, most of the time I tip more than 10%, but if the service is average/good, that's what they'll get.
