There used to be Mandrake stores here in SoCal. One was in Torrance and the other in Santa Monica. For sure their selection of used manga was pretty intensive. Maybe Book Off carries more, but Mandrake had a harder core "otaku" feel about their shops. I wish they were still here in the USA.
Japan's Manga Superstore Opens Akihabara Branch

TOKYO -- Lovers of used manga and anime merchandise have one mecca: Mandarake, Japan's premier chain of nerd superstores. And now there's one in Akihabara.
Mandarake has had a small branch in Japan's videogame district since 2002, but it only sold pornographic doujinshi comics. This month, a giant eight-floor megastore catering to all types of otaku opened up in Aki. It's a giant black monolith of a building set on one of Akihabara's side streets.
Other than that, not much is going on. With the big "Golden Week" full of national holidays now upon us, expect little to no big gaming news to come out of Japan over the next week. On the other hand, time off from work and school means that hot spots like Akihabara get an abnormal amount of traffic. That means a full week of crazy crowds like the ones normally only seen on Sundays, when the main street is closed off to vehicles and swarmed with foot traffic.
