Oh gawd... Considering how long the SD series is, I got a feeling this is not gonna go down very well. Like the story will have no relationship to the manga other then in name alone.
Jay Chou to do a SLAM DUNK with Yao Ming

According to multiple sources, Taiwan-born pop singer Jay Chou has principally agreed to take the lead in Guan Lan (Slam Dunk) with Yao Ming making a cameo appearance. Produced by Taiwan's Chang-Hong Channel Film & Video Co. Ltd. and directed by Chu Yin-Ping, Slam Dunk is about an orphan, who grew up at Kung-Fu University (no kidding!), becomes a talented basketball player. Idea for this movie is actually inspired by the same-name Japanese manga series. Wu Dun, president of Chang-Hong, intents to make Slam Dunk a pure Taiwanese-made, has turned down a financial offer from a Hong Kong company and has asked the Taiwanese government to share the cost, which has soared to about US$10 million. (Good luck!) Wu said he would ask Korean singer BoA to play Jay Chou's girlfriend and the mainland Chinese partner just booked Yao Ming for one-day cameo shoot. As for the choreography, Wu has been in contact with Ching Siu-Tung (The Curse of Golden Flower, House of Flying Daggers, Hero). According to a press article released last November, the cast may also include Eric Tsang, Antony Wong, Ng Man-Tat, Wang Gang and Zhang Guoli. Hong Kong's Centro Digital (The Promise, Kung Fu Hustle, Shaolin Soccer) is commissioned to do the CG effects. Shooting will begin sometime next year.

BTW: BoA as his GF? For those of you that have read/seen SD I think we can assume they mean the Capt.'s sister Haruka. Does that mean they're also going to change the storyline so much that she's now Sakuragi's GF?
That would be a major plot deviation as in the story Haruka has the hots for Sakuragi's rival Rukawa.
Having Yao do a cameo is actually a good idea IMO.

I still want an Initial D sequel, the ending to the first left me hanging.
But when the SD movie does come out, i'll check it out.

well i assume the only reason why they casted jay chou is because of his basketball background. He does actually play basketball daily and is actually pretty good at it. But iono about the acting...........he's okay i guess, well good enough to win a new comers award last yr in china anyway.

But hey that's why he's an actor, i'm sure he can display the emotions, but we just know him as expressionless.
