name says it all, and cylinder heads?

Ok so I currently have a '90 mustang for sale w/ the 302 and if the price is right I'll let er go and I'm kinda leaning towards a del sol for a new toy. Which years are the best to look for? I'm sure I'm going to get the response "make sure its a vtec" but if I end up with an si that is not vtec how are those performance wise? I've tried to search the web to find dyno numbers showing hp gains with a cylinder head and or top end kit swap but didn't find much. WIth the mustangs a topend kit will generally get a car from 190 rwhp to the 270-300 range depending on brand etc. So what kind of power gains have been seen with say the gude topend kit ('bout the only one I've found) and what kind of et's have been ran with said kit or something similar? I don't really wish to waste my time w/ cai's, u/d pulleys, etc, etc, because they net near nothing in power gained and are a waste of $. Thanks for any info
