progressive scan sends 60 full frames to the tv, instead of 30 interlaced frames, you get a better and smoother images, in order to utilize this though you need a hi-scan TV, which pretty much means an HDTD compatible tv.

does anyone know any good DVD player with Progressive Scan?
most new DVD players have it, I have the sony 700p, 715p has it too, just look around, 75% of current dvd players will have it. If you have HDTV though, and want some nice quality, I would get a pioneer elite DV45a, or some other ones, there are truly many good DVD players out there, and with DV45a, you get DVD and SACD for about $699 RETAIL price can't beat that.

If you don't have a High Definition TV, it is no use getting a Progressive Scan DVD player unless you plan on keeping it until you get a HDTV. The progressive scan feature only works on HDTVs. Connecting a P.S. DVD player using component video, you will get 480 interlaced lines of resolution. Connecting the same DVD player to a HDTV will take FULL advantage of a PS DVD player displaying 480 progressive lines of resolution resulting in a shaper image. What analog TVs do is scan the odd lines of resolution first then the even lines. Digital TVs in conjuction with a PS source or something like it will scan all the lines in sequence - giving you a sharper and smoother image.
I have the Sony DVP-NS715P with progressive scan. I don't have a HDTV yet, but it plays awesome with my 32" Wega and 16:9 compression.

Toshiba SD4700
Toshiba's SD4700 has everything that the demanding A/V connoisseur could ask for: a nearly flawless progressive-scan picture, DVD-Audio support, and a bargain price tag to boot. DTV owners: Put this player on your shortlist.
It doesnt have SACD , but really there arent that many DVD audio discs out yet.....I think missy elliot is the only rap title so far....
Also It sounds like that one has problems with 4:3 output....From what Ive seen the output is amazing on my sony and it plays vcd's from my computer like nothing.
