tech wrench 2004 Accord Engine Noise

I have a 2004 Accord V6 - manual transmission. I bought the car used with about 30,000 miles. The engine emits a whining noise through the RPM range that sounds similar to late 90's BMW M3's, kind of machiney. I'm not necessarilly opposed to it, but rather curious as to its nature. I don't personally know anyone that has the same vehicle, so I wanted to see if anyone else has a similar sound on their 2004 Accord. I've ruled out the transmission because I've reved it up while in neutral.

Anyone have a similar situation? Is it just how the car is, or could it be a problem? My first thought was timing belt, but not too certain.....

Wifes06 is on a distinguished road
i joined this site for this very same problem (or question) my wifes 2006 v6 coupe AT started making this sound about 4k miles ago. its very faint until you hit the accelorator and then it "sounds" like your car has some serious winter tires on it however when you lay off the accelorator the sound goes away reguardless of your speed. btw we are running 5w20 conventional and recently did a coolant flush @ 28k miles. anyone have any insight into this???

My 04 has made that noise since I bought it new. Honda tech said it's one of those Honda noises and there's nothing wrong.

Strange but true. I've got over 65K on the car and no problems.

Thanks for the responses everyone. I actually just took it into Honda last week and had them look at it. Turns out it was my alternator making the noise. They didn't elaborate if it was the pulley bearings or what, but I'm getting it fixed this week. Cost for original Honda is $1,100!!!! Thankfully it was covered under my warranty. I will let you know if that fixed the problem.

That's interesting. I'll have to ask the tech next time my car is in the shop. Since I asked during the first checkup and it's documented, they should replace mine, if that's the problem.
