Accord 2004 Automatic Transmission Oil

I am using 6cyl Accord 2004 with automatic transmission. Dealer told me that i must change automatic transmission oil after 80,000KM.
People says that usually changing the automatic transmission oil destroys the gearbox etc and ends up in lots of problems. Friends says better dont touch it unless its dirty.
Please help me on that.

I had an 03 ex v6 that should have been changed well before that. The original honda trans oil is all that can be used. It's 4something a quart, but it's cheap insurance against premature failure. The trans has a drain plug and crush washer. refill with a little over 3 quarts with the atf z1 honda oil. I'm doing it every 20,000.

i changed mine at 75k at the dealership. i'm just going with the normal maintanence schedule that's listed in the manual.

the only thing that i do different is the oil change interval. i change with mobil 1 every 15-20k miles, ends up being about 1 change a year.

running strong and smooth since day 1. got 139,000 miles so far.

Another Trans oil opinion

I do my own maintenance and was told by the dealer to do a partial fluid change on my 2001 Ody every 15K miles. The procedure is so easy for a partial change and fluid is so cheap that I do the same change interval for my accord. This is very cheap maintenance and the car is getting enough fresh additives to minimize potential future issues.

Cringe Factor

Are you cringing at a 15K motor oil change or a 15K trans fluid partial change. I have always been of the belief that changing the engine oil with quality oil and a quality filter is the lowest cost most beneficial thing that can be done for your car. I do my too often at 3k to 4K, my work pays for it though I do the labor. With Honda making the trans fluid change as easy as it is I am all over the 15K interval for that. I hate the idea of multi thousand dollar transmission job that could have been prevented. Is my thinking correct?

The transmission fluid should be changed every 30,000 miles. Do not flush!

Conventional oil should never go over 3,000 miles. I change my oil every 5,000 miles but I use Mobil 1 synthetic and a fram tough guard filter or a high mileage Fram filter for the extended period. Using frams regular oil filter with synthetic wont give you 5000 mile protection since the filter is not designed to last 5,000 miles and still work efficiantly.
