Idler Pulley

I have a 2004 Accord V6 and I am trying to get the idler pulley off. I had it unbolted but the bolt is too long and hits the frame before the pulley comes off. So it is pretty much stuck on the motor. Any ideas on how to get this pulley off so I can replace it. It is making noise. Thanks

assuming your talking about the drive belt auto tensioner, you have to remove both bolts holding the tensioner to the car.

first remove the lower bolt then loosen the center bolt until the tensioner falls off the engine and remove the bolt with the tensioner. then remove the pulley, etc, and finish up.

Ody Idler Pulley done the same way??

HondatechAV6,
I was going to post this question...I have a 2002 Ody that I have to replace the idler pulley on. Is the procedure of removing the bracket first the same as the Accord? Also, is it a Torx bolt holding the pulley onto the bracket assembly? What size? Any additional insights would be greatly appreciated.

yeah, you have to remove the entire tensioner assembly. the oddy is different though, it uses a strut type tensioner thingy. you may not be able to buy the pulley without the tensioner. check with the dealer parts dept. on that.

Ody Tensioner pulley replacement

Anyone who needs to do this: go through the right front wheelwell and do it yourself. The part is $57 a belt is $22 and it takes maybe 45 minutes.
