I was thinking about trying the Weapon R over the V2 precisely because it supposedly accomplishes the same (or maybe better) performance result without the threat of ingesting H2O. The whole unit rides inside the engine compartment.
I was thinking that I could modify the OEM air delivery configuration, which on my 06 looks more WAI than cold. It draws air from just underneath the hood in front of the battery, downward below the battery, then back up to the air filter box. I thought if I just removed the forward bends in the pipe it would provide a colder air source for the intake without allowing wet air to reach the filter.
Someone, on one of these threads, highly recommended the use of that AEM bypass, just in case. I wouldn't want any water getting to my engine. It's just too risky.
Mods: coilovers 3" exhaust, shorty intake, built bottom end, more to come!!!

i can actually answer all of those questions. i had a 00 ebp em1 with the v2 on my b16a2. it can handle wet air just so long as you dont put the whole filter under water. should u do this you will hydra-lock your motor something like i did. its not pretty, trust me. its a nice intake but the bypass is not only reccommended, i wold say its required. and for the other ?, the v2 is much larger than the weapon r i dont believe the filter will fit the pipe. hope it helps just my 2 cents

I should look through AEM's info/web sire again but, I was sure they did not have or recommend a bypass for the V2 because of the multi pipe size design?. While I really really love the performance, I hate the worry. The car is also 1.5" lower to the ground, the filter might be only 12" from the pavement? But I havn't actually measured it. When I put it on I really didn't think I was creating a "dry only" driver.

they might not recommend it on there site but take it from someone who blew a motor with it on his car. i bottomed out in a puddle one night when it was pouring and i fucked the motor. now as far as dry driver, it wont be, wet air is perfectly fine for the filter, i actually liked how it sounded when it was moist, just dont hit a massive puddle and you will be golden

Thanks for the help. Somewhere, I've read that only when nearly completely submerged will it pull enough water to hydro lock the motor. This is True? False?

It needs to be going through serious water before you are looking at hydro locking an engine. But being that as it may avoiding puddles is just a good rule of thumb because it is hard to judge how deep they are sometimes.....

that is too true sometimes and yes the filter needs to be damn near under water to suck enough up. unfortunately for me the puddle ended up being about to my door sill . it was in no way enjoyable pushing my car out of a puddle soaking wet socks pouring rain and then realizing what i did
