Blown Engine?

specs:
ZC racing engine w/ mods si tranny 1.6l SOHC non vtec
1990 honda civic si

i let my friend drive my car, the car was on the side of the highway
when i pulled up he said "it wouldnt start"... i then tried to start the car and noticed:

- wont "fire" (WILL CRANK OVER)
- sounds like a broken rod when turning over
- oil all over "driver-side" rear of the engine bay (underneath brake cylinder"
- engine oil was below min. line on dip stick

Fix's/suggestions/comments (constructive only i have limited time)
Need response asap due to fact that my friend is paying for parts.
New engine = $675 + freight

Story from friend:
"I was getting on the highway comming around a turn, then the wheel jerked LEFT and started to sound wierd, so i pulled over"

MY ASSUMPTION = ZC racing engine is completely gone

Personally I would get the new engine and swap all your aftermarket parts over. Less time just a straight pull one engine out, transfer parts, then put other one in.
