Car: '94 auto Civic EX (2dr), '94 5sp LX (4dr)
Mods: EX: stock. LX: SRI, exhaust. Soon Y8 and B&M shifter, maybe EX trans.
Chances are, the head will never be the same. How do you throw a car into 1st while at 25mph though? I can't even ease my 94 LX into 1st unless I'm creeping.
Anyway, I have $10 saying he'll need to replace the head.
Mods: B18C1 swap, fully built for turbo,195whp as of now w/hondata s200, boosting soon
i agree valves are most likly they issue but that sucks and that seems weird. 25 and in 4th? i redline at 35 in 1st. idk how he snapped a belt must have been going faster than that. thats crazy though good luck.

kinda what I was thinking, it may be a transmission problem. Thats what I'd think. And by serpentine belt you dont happen to mean timing belt, because B series engines do not have 1 serpentine belt, they have 3 separate drive belts, one for ps, one for AC (if equipped) and the other for the alternator. The big belt is the timing belt, its under plastic and metal covers.
Might also be the time to teach your kid to drive stick properly, that will save you lots of money in the long run, burning out clutches FTL.
The serpentine belt only drives the accessories, so broken belt shouldn't cause any issues.
The real issue here is that he broke the belt because he over-revved the engine. The overrev probably also bent valves as well. A 4-1 downshift is very severe and probably did some damage. Have the car compression and/or leakdown tested to verify that valves are good or not.

I agree.....to go to 1st gear going 25mph..you'd have to physically try and cram that shifter into 1st gear position...or on my car and alot of others I have driven going 10mph and going to first isn't that easy..still have to jam it.
